I know this song better by Judy Collins. John Denver's version is a bit weird. I do like the bagpipes though. But he changes one word and negates the idea. "Our lives shall not be sweated" becomes "Our lives shall not be sweetened". Listen to his song "Alaska and Me": "I dreamed of being a bush pilot's wife". Johnny we hardly knew ye. Never watched "Lost", so I have no idea what you're writing about. "Jericho" didn't last long enough to have a song of its own.

John's version is the only one I've heard; I'll have to check out Judy's! I really like her voice. I wonder why he changed that word? I love "Alaska and Me"; both songs are on "Higher Ground," which is my favorite John Denver album. Man, have I worn that one into the ground...

Never saw "Jericho", but it sounded like a promising show that got cut off before its time. I should Netflix it one of these days! Thanks for dropping by!

"Higher Ground" was a made for TV movie in which John Denver plays a retired FBI agent who becomes disillusioned with the bureaucracy and moves to Alaska. Naturally, he ends up working with a local cop (immigrant from Scotland) to solve a murder there. In one scene he sings "Alaska and Me" to some people sitting around a fireplace in a ski lodge. The part about being a wife was left out. A great song in any event. If you like John Denver's "Bread and Roses" you will really enjoy Judy Collins version. I think it's on youtube. She recorded it twice, that I know of. The album with the word "Spring" in the title has better arrangement and instrumentation. The song was inspired by a factory workers strike in Massachusetts in 1912.

I just watched "Higher Ground" for the first time a few months ago. Never knew it existed before, which surprised me since I love the album so much! Needless to say, I was pretty excited to see that. Glad to find a fellow fan here!

Just listened to Judy Collins. Very nice, and interesting to hear it with a completely different tune.
