The Lyrics

Someone asked me to write a song of the Andrea Doria disaster, so here it is.
She was the greatest ship
of the Italian Line
She was the oceans' pride
a liner mighty fine
In 1953
she made her maiden tour
and transatlantic trips
were on her brochure

It was her hundredth time
she sailed in Atlantic night
she was New York bound
and she had schedule tight
But it was fog and dark
and danger loomed ahead
yet no one thought of doom
of Andrea Doria...

A Swedish ship nearby
a blip on radar screen
but in the fog and dark
she could have not be seen
Both thought their speed was right
and that their course was sound
but all too late they saw
that they were ramming-bound

And then she turned to port
but it was all too late
the bow of Stockholm hit
and it did penetrate
they sent an SOS
as ship began to list
but forty souls were lost
on Andrea Doria...

And order "Leave the ship"
the skipper called, and crew
they tried to save their boat
but it was vain, they all knew

One thousand souls were saved
but mighty ship was doomed
She listed starboard side
and disappeared slow in the sea

Andy Doria - Don't cry now - No tears now

Soon fifty years have passed
and jets the skies now soar
and distant thing of past
are the Queens of Oceans now

...Gone is Andrea Doria!

Nice Sisanna-555!!! I have been writing some parodies with vessels lately too and have done MS Wilhlem Gustloff, RMS Lancastria, SS Sultana, SS Andria Doria, and a few on SS Edmund Fitzgerald too. I guess you missed them...???

Susanna - And the series goes in another unexpected direction! Fine work. I had a teacher who actually was on the Stockholm during the collision. ;D

Rob, I have been sadly quite busy lately, but I attempt to visit Amiright now and then - I just need to check. On the grand shipwrecks: I've done Wilhelm Gustloff, Titanic, Estonia and now Andrea Doria. They are pretty sad events, but worthy of songs.
