The Lyrics

My revised version of my tribute to the United Kingdom. This time, I changed the wording from 'let's hope it did not last' to 'let's hope it'll ever last'.
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked hard till the end.
And I had to start again,
with just my family and my friends.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be living here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be in Britain,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won't forget the ones who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the great UK.

From the banks of Loch Lomond,
to the hills of old Surrey.
Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow,
From Derry to Swansea.

From London up to Edinburgh,
and Cardiff to Belfast.
Well there's pride in every British heart,
and let’s hope it'll ever last.

‘Cause I’m proud to be in Britain,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won't forget the ones who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the great UK.

And I’m proud to be in Britain,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won't forget the ones who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the great UK.

The original became so popular here that it is almost a second, unofficial national anthem. Perhaps your version will supplant "God Save the Queen" at public events.

You could have added the best from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and STILL not beaten the U.S. in soccer! Yes, the majority of the English-speaking world (us, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the host nation, South Africa) calls it that. On the other hand, you gave us the language, Shakespeare, telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell, the Beatles and Catherine Zeta-Jones, so up the Brits.

For all you've given us, we at the very least owe you a good song. ;D
