The Lyrics

One of the best games ever, The Legend of Zelda, has had many incarnations. Here are three of the early ones making up this song. Hope you enjoy.
Saturday summers when I was a kid
My daddy would sit down and tell me what he did
He’d tell me of Impa and the Hyrule canon
Of Princess Zelda and evil Ganon
Cause the triforce of power was owned by that man
And the one of wisdom in the land
He searched though eight dungeons, o’er hills and through fields
Equipped with his sword and his shield

Saving Hyrule, it’s easy you know
Weilding his sword and a boomerang to throw
That’s why he carries his shield
Way out where the octorocks grow

Saving Hyrule can be lonely and dull
Especially when his coin bag was full
He dreamed of the day when the Windfish would say
Thank you for saving me, wish you could stay
When he’d collect instrument of the sirens
And play for the egg ‘neath the sun
And then he’d awake from this long reverie
Adrift on a log out to sea

Saving Hyrule, it’s easy you know
Weilding his sword and a boomerang to throw
That’s why he carries his shield
Way out where the Pokies grow

(Whistling)

I was outside, just singing a song
When agent of evil were once again wrong
I ran to my daddy, he was sick in bed
He gave me his stuff and said fight in my stead
Suddenly stories of history
Run through my mind quickly, the hero is me?
I fought the evil wizard when my vision twirled
Suddenly I was in Dark World

Saving Hyrule, it’s important you know
You gotta know how to search and make your sword glow
That’s why I’m saving Hyrule –
Going to fight Ganon with my bow
Enjoy. I'm in the midst of recording this one where everything will be me this time -- making it playable elsewhere (whether it is worth it or not is another story.)

GREAT tribute to the Zelda games. My fave of them is, of course, the original for NES. 555 Triforce pieces for this one. PS: Security code was "DLC", abbreviation of "Downloadable Content". LOL!

SOTM: Not bad, not a Zelda fan at all, but still pretty good!

SOTM: I stand by my original comment. Excellent! Now, peace returns to AmIRight. This ends the story.

Medemia - I viewed your Youtube video of this game. I chanced upon it because I thought I knew all of the Peter, Paul & Mary songs but I'd never heard this one. I went to youtube ignoring your link and just by chance I hit on your video. That kind of blew my mind for a bit. Extra points for creating your own cover since there was no OS for this song on Youtube.

Actually, that's not me doing the cover. I wish I could play guitar like that! It is the video that I used as reference though :) Thanks everyone for the comments.

Sure good for a moody game soundtrack, not really for a SOTM top half though IMHO.

I LOVE Zelda, and all Zelda games... Link is even one of my favorite characters to play as in Super Smash Brothers!

(SOTM) Never having been a 'gamer', I wasn't able to connect with the references, but good job on the parody from what I could tell...555!!!

(SOTM) Most of my gmaing knowledge is platformer-centred, but I did beat Ocarina of Time with only one-and-a-half dungeons needing walkthroughs (half of Jabu-Jabu's Belly and the whole of the bleeding Water Temple)! Great parody here, I get most of the references (pokies?), 555!

(SOTM) Ugh--how did that OS become popular--I've heard better vocal stylings from Bob Dylan--which if anyone knows what I think of Bob Dylan's vocals, they know just how bad that made this to me. The parody brought back memories Medemia, it was well written, and I can vividly remember as a younger kid how much I used to like the old NES Zelda, I can't believe that NES is old now. . .wow I'm only 27 and I feel like an old man. ..good job overall, not real big on the LOL and I never realized how off pitch Peter, Paul & Mary are--but I won't hold that against you. . .

Recently, I've been telling my son tales of live roleplay adventures - don't know Hyrule, but enjoyed the sort of whimsical stroll down memory lane this represented. But ain't the OS a bit of a dirge?
Medemia - August 31, 2009 - Report this comment
@Phil: Not really. Original song is about a kid who is always picked last in baseball and makes a miracle catch not really expecting it to save the game. It's a fun song. :)
