Parody Song Title:

"Very Very Sensible"

Parody Written by:

Stuart McArthur

The Lyrics

We should all try to be a little more sensible

When strolling he's unmissable
His clothing is high-visible
Fast food he finds resistible
He's do-not-run-with-scissorsble

When he packs his sunscreen
it is factor fifteen
His potatoes are all scrutinised for traces of green
He only drinks Bud Light beer
and that's because he's

very very sensible

very very sensible

He treats as though it's paramount
his Christmas-Saver bank account
On payday (though he spends a bit)
he banks eighty percent of it

His screensavers rotate
at the break of each day
all his passwords are comprised of lower AND upper case
he chops old credit cards
in half
and that's because he's

very very sensible

very very sensible

(very very sensible)
When he's out - there's no telling that there's noone home
(very very sensible)
In a drought - he puts timers on the hose

His humble lifestyle would embarrass any monk
He's so health conscious that he's never eaten junk
He makes me wonder if he's ever gotten drunk
the clams he eats are self-caught - that's because he's

(very very sensible)
He drives down...
mountains...
in the gear that he drove up
(very very sensible)
He pours out...
milk that
might be two days old

He buys his corduroys at sales
He's frightened of deep-voiced females
In contracts he reads all details
He lobbies hard for taller jails

He uses ear gum...
when he listens to drums
At bedtime he makes sure he brushes down from the gums
He chews each mouthful sixteen times...
and that's because he's

(very very sensible)
When he flies - he takes strolls to ward off DVT
(very very sensible)
In mid-flight - he avoids all alcohol
(very very sensible)
He checks out - all his fellow aircraft passengers
(very very sensible)
If in doubt - he decides to stay at home

very very sensible!

A very clever, extremely well grounded and perfectly-put-together parody.... any sensible person would vote fives!
Rex - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
I used to work with this guy. 555

Now this is just lovely, Stuart...lots of laughs...but...

"He's do-not-run-with-scissorsble"

...was never outdone, in my opinion. Just hilarious!

Simply laugh resistable

I think it would be sensible of me to give you 5s.
Beatlejuice - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Loved the scissors line too...very sensible! Three fives
Peter Andersson - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
From the title I figured this was gonna be about political correctness, but it was more sensible than that. Fives, if that's okey? :-)
AFW - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Fives from me

"In mid-flight - he avoids all alcohol", well he's likely alone on that one--when I'm not being the wheel of a car (or going to be) what's wrong with a little mid-air boozing? Only you can make someone who is very boring, very funny--great song. I also like the crack about running with scissors back towards the beginning.

thanks McKludge, TJC, matthias, Rex, Arwen, alvin, Ann (I think), John, Beatlejuice, Peter, AFW, BADave, and Phil, and I agree BADave, airline flights are FOR drinking alcohol

That was AWESOME! Loved it! Ive had this OS on my to do list for a while. Love the OS too
Red Ant - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
You say he's very sensible
I'd say he's quite predictable
and perhaps even dense and dull
To sum it up he's so a-nal!

... or something like that. =)
Great job here, Stu, on a fun OS to parody. (pretends he didn't read Alvin's comment). And yes, flights are for drinking, especially when you are seated over the wing and watch loose pop rivets spin around while travelling 500 MPH. 555.
John Jenkins - July 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Very clever word picture, Stuart, but it doesn't sound like anyone at AmIRight.
bobpiecheese - July 19, 2007 - Report this comment
DKTOS except for the main line (bloody Shields ad), but that was absolutely tip-top work, Stu!
Kristof Robertson - July 19, 2007 - Report this comment
Just freakin' wonderful, Stu! Your eye for detail is almost unsurpassed, and you always make the mundane riotously funny. Bravo! 555+++

btw...I'd LOVE to hear a recording of this....:-)
stuart mcarthur - July 19, 2007 - Report this comment
thanks Jack - I've done this twice now - it's a bit of a hoot - lots to play with

thanks Jack (ie Red Ant) - that's a little too much detail for me to think you're making it up, Jack - you weren't Top Gun once, by any chance?

thanks JJ - nope, all cool unsensible dudes here of course ;-)

ah yes, bobpie, the Shields ad! - and ah yes"tip-top" the Dermott Brereton ad!

thanks Kristof, but I'm easily surpassed in fact by your good self, as with the mundane - I reckon Mr Sensible might just spend his holidays at Villa De Mediocre ;-)
Agrimorfee - July 19, 2007 - Report this comment
to give you 555 seems quite sensible.
Red Ant - July 19, 2007 - Report this comment
I watched that rivet spin for the better part of the flight... made me wonder how many other rivets were spinning, too. No Top Gun school: Boeing 737-400 class planes cruise at 795km/hr (.78 Mach), which, if I remember my conversions correctly, is 494 MPH.

Very Gallant

(SOTM) Again, quite sensible.

Red Ant - August 17, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) See above, and while superb, I wished it could have been done with all "-ble" (or similarly sounding) rhymes in the verses. Also, "He lobbies hard for taller jails/// He uses ear gum" ddn't make much sense to me (in the context of this parody), and using "gums" as a rhyme two lines later...maybe "...ear plugs" for "ear gum" would have been better, IMHO.

Still, excellent work on a favorite OS of mine, and "Stuart it's Recordable". =)

(IOW, get a mic and record it! That makes perfect sense... ;) )

thanks Ag (twice) Matthias and Max

thanks for the advice Jack! ;-) although seriously that topic would make a good MB thread - ie. "Why did you jump left at a creative crossroads when you could've jumped right, or vice versa?" and/or "Where do you think other people should have jumped the other way?" - here, for instance, I had the obvious "earplugs" in first as you picked up, then I thought "he uses eargum, when he listens to drums" sounded smoother so I changed it (you say tomayto I say tomarto) - as for "taller jails" it's so that fewer criminals can climb out of them! - nothing more sensible than that!! - and as for all verses consisting of rhymes ending in "-ble" it might have been possible, but the jokes would have been more laboured, and I couldn't have used my favourite ones, and all to serve what purpose? (because the OS doesn't even do that) - and humour (-ing myself;-)) always ends up taking priority with me (over pacing, syllable-matching, internal rhyming, and all other party tricks) - interesting discussion though

(SOTM) I have a feeling this is not autobiographical, you gay cavalier, you! Still wonderfully fresh and funny, and deserving of much plauditry.

This parody should be boring, and normal, but it's crazy and outstanding... Only you could turn a subject like this entertaining.

Irresisibly sensible and sensibly irresisible. The song has two well build moving parts and both are interchangable. I like that sort of thing in parody. Excellent write
