The Lyrics

The best way to appreciate this parody is to sing it out loud in your best melodramatic, adenoidal Geddy Lee vocal impression. (don't get me wrong, I like Rush!)
On Monday, I worried with all my pride if the day's Chop Suey would be fried
It's not from the Orient, but it tastes so heaven sent
It hardly makes any sense, writing out this cadence
But I'll try it
What can you say about Chop Suey that ain't been said about society?
Chop the chicken, find your id
Dice the veggies, close the lid
My world is a world with boiled rice for me
I could eat it all day
Yummy Chop Suey goes right on through
And in an hour, hunger's back to you
"No, this place is not up for rent
I pay my tax to government
Hey, you are a nice gent
Are you ready to order yet?
Very nice day!"
Can you cook me a plate of Chop Suey?
Loaded with spices and MSG
With a side dish of Moo-Goo Gai Pan

Hiya! This parody is supposed to be serious, not funny right? 5,1,3.

the what? I don't get it... and I thought it was going to be a parody about the song... metaparodies are the best.

8 votes later, I am still trying to understand why this parody gets such a wide array of opinion. Perhaps some people were thinking i was writing a parody of System Of A Down's "Chop Suey" about the book Tom Sawyer? I still don't understand what neminem was trying to say. Que sera, sera...

(ABC) Clever, with a touch of Zen or Ch'an.
Phil Alexander - May 04, 2004 - Report this comment
It is clever, not exactly funny, but strangely enough about an hour after reading it, I want to read it again ;-)

Elusive! and good! (ABC) lol, Phil

OK, Aggro, you win the bizarro award. Hands down. (That's a compliment.)

Thanks ABC voters for your thoughts! :)

I think juxtaposing lyrics this silly over a song by a band who took themselves waaaaaay too seriously is brilliant! I had to dock you for pacing, tho' because you left off a bit of the end of the song. Fix this up a bit, re-enter it in some later parody contest (a food one maybe?) and you will probably get my ultimate vote. :-)

I wrote this without the benefit of a lyric sheet, just my ear, so the last 3 lines are technically off, but they stretch over the beats pretty well IMHO.

I'm with Meri on this one. The contradiction to RUSH's attitude made it funny for me. Different people. different opinions.

I must refresh my memory of the song, but after reading this song I definitely want to come back and read it again. There's something here that I can't see, so I'm not sure if it's for me. What could it be, what could it be?

An oldie for sure! I wasn't even alive when you wrote this one! Wish you would have done an update on it and reformatted it to fit the pacing but overall not bad!

Good taste.

(Artistry) Pretty decent, but there were a few pacing quibbles, some lines near the end were missing, and it's been a while since "this is a food that exists" as a topic really stood out to me. Then again, it's hard to be too critical against a parody written when I was but a sperm. Heh, butt sperm. Anyway, 555 fortune cookies!
