The Lyrics

used to be a guy in toronto who would stand night and day in a little downtown screaming like chicken little.. drove by the park the other day and he wasnt there.. kinda sad...hope he's ok.. pretty harmless. and funny if you had a few pints in you
I walk by in the evening
hear what he has to say
I walk by in the morning,
he's setting up, to spout again today
does he ever get tired,
I get tired just watchin, myself
man he's crazy, he could use just a little help

the guy's got desire,
on a soapbox, central park,
in a social quagmire
he is just ranting in the park

make his message clearer,
mind is gone, I think he leans to left
he needs to look in the mirror
get a brain, cause his has left
I aint listenin no more
he belongs in a dump like this
on his soapbox he stands there
even though he is ranting in the park

the guy's got desire,
on a soapbox, central park,
in a social quagmire
he is just ranting in the park

he's yellin as he gets older,
it's a joke, democrat, I think he is,
he's got a head like a boulder,
glad he's found a side that's his

scream on the streets of his town,
and he'll be keepin you up all night
so get him out in the country
hey baby, the park guy is ranting tonight
he's lookin for reaction
see people standin round here give looks
intelligence a fraction
of his usual ranting in the park

the guy's got desire,
on a soapbox, central park,
in a social quagmire
he is just ranting in the park

Great treatment of the commentary! (Not funny, but I rated that category on treatment and phrasing, instead... hard to know what to do with that category, sometimes.) I've never liked the original song, in fact, I strongly dislike it, but it is a perfect selection for the subject and I have to admit, I found myself enjoying the song with your alternate lyrics. The pacing didn't match the original lyric in a few places, but I gave you a five on pacing because so much was dead-on and when I played the original with it, all but one of the "off" lines fell nicely into the melody for me, anyway. This one strikes me more as new lyrics to an old tune than a parody. Very nice. 5, 5, 5
