Original Performer:

Starship

Parody Song Title:

"They Burned This City"

The Lyrics

Too soon? Sorry, but once a hot news subject comes close to the title of a pop song from any time from the 1950s to the present, my muses kick in. To use the title of another Starship hit, NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW!
They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

Santa Ana’s blowing. It’s not a gentle breeze.
So you don't care what grows beneath all those trees.
Waist deep in the scrub brush, dried up in the drought,
Too many embers fly for us to put them out!

May'r Bass flew off to Ghana, then learned on the radio
Will you remember?
They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

Karen Bass and Newsom’s finger-pointing game,
Looking right at each other, finger-pointing blame!
Money meant for firetrucks went to D-E-I,
The Smelt got all the H-2-O, hydrants all were dry!

May'r Bass flew off to Ghana, then learned on the radio
Will you remember?
They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

It's yet another news break
Of a burning new street
Plenty of smoke to choke on, oh
More thousands flee the heat

Who counts the bodies underneath the ash?
Who turned eight-figure homes to these piles of trash?
The state blames the city; the city blames the state,
And though he’s not yet sworn back in, they both shoot Trump some hate.

(I'm looking out for that HOLLYWOOD sign through another fiery smoky Saturday and flames chasing that bumper to bumper traffic.)

Will you remember? (remember)

(Here's your all news radio station, in your tragically flaming city, the city in the smoke, the wind that roars, the fires that never burn out.)

May'r Bass flew off to Ghana, then learned on the radio

Will you remember?
They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

They burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city (oh)
They burned this city to glowing coal
Burned this city
They burned this city to glowing coal

(They burned, they burned this city) burned this city (They burned this city)
(They burned, they burned this city) burned this city (They burned this city)
(They burned, they burned this city) burned this city (They burned this city)
(They burned, they burned this city) burned this city (They burned this city)

Now that's a nice touch of satire. I'm going to have something lined up on this topic, but it's going to be a personnel attack. Let's leave the tease at that.

Point taken and I had seriously considered that for the reasons you suggest, but ultimately decided that "burnt" as a past participle verb was more of a British English use, while Starship is an American band and the subjects of both the OS and my parody are American cities. Not reciprocally, "built" is the past participle verb in both dialects. ("Builded" is the only alternate past participle and clearly archaic in both.) Your comment is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
