The Lyrics

Fought a war for It'ly once,
And I won
So I took a break to de-STRESS in Roma
I met many cuties there,
Beauties there
Then decided I should assESS Cremona
Such a pretty town
All around,
But once I unwound, I was Venice-bound,
There I found
What I'd hoped would be
My… my… my… my…
wife – OOH!
There I saw Desdemona...

Daughter of a guy I knew
Through and through,
Yet, I really have to conFESS-demona
Though she once was all-too-young
Now my tongue
Drooled at how she filled out her DRESS-demona
Such a lovely girl,
Rocked my world,
Left me in a whirl with her raven curls,
Such a pearl!
And her eyes they were
Like… like… like… like…
Like... JEWELS!
The lovely Desdemona...

I loved her and she loved me,
But daddy
Was the type who thought he knew BEST-demona
If he'd known we planned to wed,
Share a bed,
We knew it would cause him diSTRESS-demona
Thinks an Af-ri-can
Ain't the man
For his little one, and he would be pissed,
He'd insist
Marriage plans were un-
Wise… wise… wise… wise…
Wise… (Boo!)
But I loved Desdemona!

So we had to sneak away
Far away
Though a love like ours was no SIN-demona
We knew once he'd found we'd wed
He'd see red
So we spent our honeymoon IN Verona
Planning what we'd say
To convey
That we'd run away for his daughter pure
Had allure
That ensnared the Moor
Guy... uy... uy... uy...
Guy WHO?
The guy for Desdemona!

But alas, through spies and scouts
He'd found out
All about our marital TIES-demona
'Ere I could confess that I'd
Won my bride
I'd been snitched by some wise GUYS-demona
So we had to swear
Our affair
Was all on the square -- she'd not been coerced
(And what's worse
Had to speak in verse --
Ai-yi-yi-yi-
Yi... WHEW!
Who speaks in RHYME-demona?)
Yadda... yadda... yadda... and we lived happily ever after...

It would be a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions not to give this 5's!

wonderful internal rhyming

You seem to have a knack for parody

This is cool, but this record was made in the late 70s. Fives anyway for such great work.

Thanks, McKludge, alvin and PMS. Jason, my bad -- thanks for the correction on the date -- I shoulda looked it up. Is there any way to correct that? Does it screw something up in the database or something? Anybody know?
dioa - May 07, 2007 - Report this comment
Yeah it does kinda screw up the database because it'll be listed in the wrong section, which will be misleading to anyone who browses it and comes across it there. One way to correct it is to resubmit it under the correct timeframe and have the admins delete the old (bad) copy. By the way I think this one's great too. It gets a straight 555 across the board.

dioa, thanks for the comment and info. I found the listing by decade -- it seems like a bunch of other My Sharona parodies made the same mistake. I'd be surprised if the admins can't just change that without everybody re-posting...

Yeah, the admins say it's not that big a deal. Personally, I don't think it's that big a deal either, but I strongly feel that parodies shouldn't be misdecaded, cuz it does make things rather confusing. Anyway, Mr. U Guest It (clever name), I think you write some great parodies; I'll check out some more later on.

Great job on the lyrics - it's true you seem to have a knack for parody. We're doing Othello for my Shakespeare class... I was looking for something the others would like - we rewrote scenes from Taming of the Shrew earlier and made them similar to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. These lyrics are definitely getting shown in class! :)
