"Going Their Own Way"

I saw the smile
Of a friendly-looking gal,
But she took a look at me
And turned away and took a walk;

But I would hope she found a gentleman
With better clothes, a better car,
A true career with pay;
President someday.

Men go their own way because of such moments;
It may not instantly show.

Well, I saw a woman walking
Forward at the closing hymn;
She was coming as she was,
And not as she should have been.

But the closing prayer made clear to her
The church could not care less;
They all left except the guard,
Who said leave, or she'd be charged.

I think that I'd do the same.

Well, I heard the story of someone who walked off of a cliff.
They had nothing left to give; no desire left to live.
And I wonder what we could have done to change the person's mind,
Or if "how" to live means more with an affirmative "why."
