The Lyrics

Are you sick and tired of agenda / issue parodies? Those unfunny rewrites of songs that serve to further a point, or promote/attack a political or religious stance? I know Inga and I are, and quite frankly we don't think they should be allowed here anymore (Perhaps on another new sister site?) So here it is, our plea to the webmaster (altho I wrote it alone) to not let those sorts of parodies on anymore.
Oh Chucky, all the time, all the time but you don't mind, hey Chucky, hey Chucky
Oh Chucky, all the time, all the time but you don't mind, hey Chucky, hey Chucky
Oh Chucky, all the time, all the time but you don't mind, hey Chucky, hey Chucky
Oh Chucky, all the time, all the time but you don't mind, hey Chucky, hey Chucky

They come in all the time, agenda-hawking songs
They go on AmIRight, should go on Am I Wrong.
Why do you let them through, whjen tempers just flare on, Chucky?

Cause some believe in God, and others say they don't
Some say vote for Bush, some say they won't
Every night, they just go on and on, Chucky!

Oh Chucky, you're so lucky not to understand
These parodies attack and you should not let them stand
Oh Chucky, we're unlucky, don't you understand?
It's songs like these, Chucky
Let them through, Chucky, why Chucky?
Don't let them through, Chucky!

Hey Chucky

Now if you let their soapbox stand., it's always gonna go
Straight to Hell faster than Bill Clinton's libido
It's nothing we can use, so please say no, Chucky!

So get them off the site, any way you can
To strike agianst one's viewpoint's not the measure of a man
But please, Chucky, don't let them continue their slams, Chucky!

Oh Chucky, you're so lucky not to understand
These parodies attack and you should not let them stand
Oh Chucky, we're unlucky, don't you understand?
It's songs like these, Chucky
Let them through, Chucky, why Chucky?
Don't let them through, Chucky!

Oh Chucky, you're so lucky not to understand
These parodies attack and you should not let them stand
Oh Chucky, we're unlucky, don't you understand?
It's songs like these, Chucky
Let them through, Chucky, why Chucky?
Don't let them through, Chucky!

Oh Chucky, you're so lucky not to understand
These parodies attack and you should not let them stand
Oh Chucky, we're unlucky, don't you understand?
It's songs like these, Chucky
Let them through, Chucky, why Chucky?
Don't let them through, Chucky!

Oh Chucky, you're so lucky not to understand
These parodies attack and you should not let them stand
Oh Chucky, we're unlucky, don't you understand?
It's songs like these, Chucky
Let them through, Chucky, why Chucky?
Don't let them through, Chucky!

And this is not an agenda / issue parody?

DKTOS so I'm not voting but I'll say my piece: I don't agree. If we start to exclude people/songs they will sooner or later find others places and then AmIright will deteriorate from it's position as THE parody community. Remember that it is in Chuckys interest to bring in as many writers and readers and visitors as possible cos he's trying to get an income from the ads that keeps this entire place founded etc.

I agree with K1. Although I also weary of the political agendas (what can they possibly achieve?) your suggestion is too impractical, Jared. Imagine how hard a job it would be to call a parody as political or just referential - any parody that mentioned Bush would have to be thoroughly discussed (and by a committee, to cater to all views) before a decision (and obviously a subjective one) could be made. Then there'd always be outrage from someone who disagreed. With the current censorship of X-rated stuff, it's usually obvious, and it hardly matters if there's disagreement, so it's not controversial. But political censorship leads to accusations of bias, restraint of freedom of speech, political manipulation, etc. So much downside - whereas the only downside at the moment is slight irritation and the inconvenience of making a quick decision not to read the source of irritation. As a general rule, altering editorial powers towards the MORE censorial can never be a good thing, unless absolutely essential - by the way, great pacing!!! - I've gotta give you 5s for that! :-)

You've made pretty good points, both of you...touché.

This site is about the laughs, Jared. I've been coming here for some laughs for a while now and have been tuning out any message I don't need. Among the best one's I've read are "Monster Bush" and "My Name is... (John Kerry)" so I don't care about the messages. It's all in good fun. :-)

Of course, there was no agenda with this parody. I don't agree with any form of censorship - I wouldn't even censor this parody; but I won't vote on it. So, the site should ban political parodies because YOU don't like them? If I thought you had a sense of humor, I would have laughed at the Clinton libido line. Let's face it, Politics is alive and well and living in both the blue and red states; even though the people in the red states are wrong.

Jared, I agree with you in spirit, because the 90% of political stuff (on both sides) is filled with vitriol, which detracts from its potential humor. However, we all have different viewpoints, and once censorship starts, where does it end? I make a practice of avoiding most parodies with an obviously political theme (altho' I find an occasional one that is humorous and well-written); if the title suggests a political or religious put-down, I usually just avoid it. Messageboards and Websites come and go. This one has been very successful, but if the nastiness gets to a point where it implodes, well, so be it. Jared, don't pin your hopes and friendships on a messageboard world, because you will eventually be disappointed. Just enjoy it while it lasts, and maybe if you are lucky (as I was) you can find something of value that will last you a lifetime, long after this artificial messageworld has passed away... :-)

As one of the perpertrators of heinous political parodies, I obviously have to disagree with the main thrust of this one - but you do have to realize, Jared, that the last few weeks have been pretty heavily politicised in all areas, so it's hardly surprising that parodies have been, too. Anyway, if you don't want to read them, you don't have to...

Jared, I understand your intentions and agree with you to a point. That not withstanding, I also agree with Phil's comments above. This is what makes the issue so difficult. As Merry said, if such parodies consisted of more humor and less attack, I would find them easier to read. But again, that is simply an individual viewpoint.

Jared, the pacing was very good.

Merry, for you : ;-)

Here you go again, creating controversy in the AmIRight world. Why are you always at the center of it? This is the Christmas Season, a time for joy and peace. By the way, I'm still 2 hotttttttt.....
