Parody Song Title:

"Alois Havrilla"

Parody Written by:

Jack Benny, the Earth Galloper

The Lyrics

Alois Havrilla (1891-1952) began his radio career as a baritone singer but went on to have a long career as a leading announcer, narrator, and commentator on radio and in film. An immigrant, Havrilla did not learn to speak English until he was 12 but ultimately won the 1935 gold medal for diction award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is best remembered today for his role as announcer on “The Jack Benny Program” during the 1933-34 season, existing for the sole purpose of interrupting dialogue with Chevrolet commercials. Note: Alois Havrilla's first name is pronounced "A Loy", (as in "a member of Myrna Loy's family.") Not "alloy", and definitely not "A Lois" (as in "Phyllis Coates was a Lois Lane but not the only one.")
Staff announcer known, for his small role in the Golden Age of Radio,
Havrilla, Havrilla
Alois; comic foil to Mary Livingstone and Jack Benny,
Havrilla

McNamara can’t hold a candle to this great guy, his diction right,
Havrilla, Havrilla
How we need you today, covering the Olympics ceremony…

Seventy-two years since he went away, Havrilla, yeah
Now he's gone and I have to say

Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah
Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah

And who could forget his favorite car, the 1934 Chevrolet?
Havrilla, Havrilla
The knee-action wheels and its chassis; how could you not be glad?
Havrilla

Singing Slovak songs to pay the bills; how can McNamara compromise?
Havrilla, Havrilla
I never thought that losing you could ever hurt so bad

Seventy-two years since he went away, Havrilla, yeah
Now he's gone and I have to say

Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah
Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah

Seventy-two years since he went away, Havrilla, yeah
Now he's gone and I have to say

Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah
Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah

Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah
Alois, hear us say
Alois, hear us say, Havrilla yeah
