The Lyrics

The OS is from Weird Al's first album, and is full of satirical dark humor. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsQO1jOXLeg) . Matthias chose it as this week's One Week Notice challenge, with the expressed goal of seeing how to make this track more whimsical and light. I think I have succeeded (ironically).
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!

Well, it’s time to celebrate the Death Day in Mexico this year
On the second of Noviembre, oh it’s not a thing to fear
We make tributes and get happy as we all prepare to greet
Angelitos y fantasmas that are roaming in the street

Tu papa’s got his guitar, canciones are in store
Tu mama’s en la kitchen cooking tamales galore
Let’s drink some limon water
A pretty moonlit sky
We will sing out a song for our loved ones who died

Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!

Here’s the offrenda, mi amigo, see it loaded with those pics?
If you are Mexican, this sweet tradition still exists
La familia who moved along, don’t treat like a recluse
Their spirits all a-bustlin’, yes tonight, they’re bustin’ loose
Everybody’s coming to the fiesta, y’ see
Eat some sugar skull heads, drink Jamaican tea
And eat some pan de muerto, it’s baked you know, not fried
Have mezcal or tequila or pulque to imbibe
(Andale ninos y ninas, cantar junto, de accuerdo?)
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!

(during the musical interlude, if this was a recording we’d likely hear the sounds of a genuine Dia De Los Muertos parade, with mariachi bands, singing and fireworks, perhaps even a few bars of “Remember Me” played on “la acordeon”)

We will visit gravesites as we walk in candlelight
We’ll eat some churros on the corner on this fine Noviembre night
Bring them marigolds and pillows for comfort and relief
Seems like everywhere you like tonight there is joyousness, indeed!
Who knew that such events could be seen as so much fun?
Like the night of Halloween that America has spun
It may seem kind of scary, just give yourself a break
Sing now with Mama Coco, her memories will take!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you! (Ole!)
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!
Happy Death Day
Happy Death Day to you!

(Hector: “Hey, it happens to everyone eventually!”)

Great parody about a great Mexican holiday filled with many great Mexican holiday traditions! I liked that you squeezed in a couple “Coco” references too. I really enjoyed that Pixar movie!

Sweden's playing Mexico in the Soccer World Cup on the 27th this month, in what statistically probably will be the clincher for advancing out of the group and to the next round - I sure hope that everyone down there in Mexico gets an extra reason for grieving on that date!
