The Lyrics

this is the other side of the story
Yeah...you...let me know...exact...ly...how you felt
You...wished...both us well...and then...just...went off
You really gave it to me, you really laid into me
An act like yours should be in a theater
You put it so vividly, you let me have it, baby
Came off like some psychotic sick twisted mother

But the love that you thought that we had never had
Half a chance to survive 'cause of your infidelity, no
And every time you tell your tale
Do your friends know the way you always had alibis
Alibis, for all of your lies

Well I'm here to remind you
It was you who left, no it wasn't me
It's not fair to deride me
I will get you back for the lies you told
You, you, you oughta know

You...sure...tell it well...sounds...con...vincing
You...can...go to hell...that's where...you...can go
Did you forget about how, it was you, broke your vow
How can you sleep at night, you lying old sinner
That song's a slap in the face, you're such a lying disgrace
Well do you think I'm just another dumb sucker

'Cause the love that you thought that we had never had
Half a chance to survive 'cause of your infidelity, no
And every time you sing that song
Do your fans know the way you're twisting the truth around
Lies abound, stop putting me down

Well I'm here to remind you
It was you who strayed, no it wasn't me
It's not fair to deride me
I will get you back for the lies you told
You, you, you oughta know

*what is that sound?*

*a dying coyote?*

*a cat in a vacuum cleaner?*

*no, just Alanis trying to sing again*

'Cause you're there sitting there in your chair on your ass
Got no class talking trash spreading all of those vicious lies
And you know it!
And every time i stick those pins into that voodoo doll
I hope you feel it. Can you feel it?

And I'm here to remind you
It was you who walked out, it wasn't me
It's not fair to deride me
I will get you back for the lies you told
You, you, you oughta know why I'm here
To remind you, it was you who blew it, it wasn't me
It's not fair to deride me
I will get you back for the lies you told
You, you, you oughta know

I couldn't have said it better myself, even though I did have relations with that 16-year-old girl to get back at Alanis.

It's brilliant! But pacing's a bit shaky in places. 4-5-5. One of the best Alanis parodies I've seen. Ever.

Was curious to see if anyone else had written a parody of this song that was funny. Unfortunately this one sounds even MORE bitter than the original! Didn't think that would be possible actually. I rewrote the lyrics and I'm hoping to record a video parody of it with a comedienne who would do an hilarious Jon I think.

The *was* a parody song written for "you ought to know" that came out within a year or two of "you ought to know"'s release. I heard it in the Portland Oregon area (there was this thing called "radio" in those days. But I can't find any reference to it on the net. If anyone has a link, I'd love to hear it again.
