Song Parodies -> "Superman, a Jew?"

Original Song Title:

"I Love You"

Original Performer:

Barney and the Backyard Gang

Parody Song Title:

"Superman, a Jew?"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, both Jewish, created Superman and borrowed themes from the Old Testament. Krypton being destroyed represents the old Israelite Kingdom. The baby safe in a ship sent to another world is Moses in the ark sent to Pharaoh's daughter. Superman raised by foreign parents (the Kents), the same. And the Superman S represents the Hebrew Lamedh- the 12th letter of their alphabet. Kal-El is also based on Hebrew angel names Gabriel and Michael. The El is short for Elohim or God (YHWH or Jehovah). His character's values of truth, justice, and the American way are based on Jewish Mishnaic truth, justice, and peace! FYI
Superman, a Jew,
Historically,
Represents a future Moses sent through a space sea
Kal-El as such,
"Voice of God" is really cool,
Siegel & Shuster intended it too!

Superman, a Jew,
S all curvy,
Like Hebrew Lamedh, 12 you see (stands for origin)
Mishnaic roots,
Truth, Justice, and American way truth,
"Man of Steel" makes him Christ-like, but Jesus was also a Jew!!!

Instead of his cousin Kara Zor-El sent to protect baby Kal-El, it should have been his bubbe! Imagine any space schmendrik trying to argue with her! And Kryptonite? Grandma would have brought some Kryptonian homemade chicken noodle soup! Of course, Lois Lane would be a shiksa!

And this, you call a parody? For this, fives I should give? Mazel tov. As a longtime comic book fan, and as someone one-quarter Jewish, I read this, and I highly recommend it. https://www.amazon.com/Superman-Jewish-Superheroes-Justice-Jewish-American/dp/1416595317

Thanks MP! As I understand it, the American comic book culture started in NYC with Jewish cartoonists. I'm a comic collector too, but not on a grand scale. I'm very selective concerning my superhero picks from Marvel, DC, and the independents.

Jon, when's your new parody due? I was thinking that since you know a lot about "King of the Hill" and Hank in particular, that you could do something with him in it...?

Seem to remember a Mad Magazine piece about this... Superboy's circumcision was... an exercise in futility.

The names always sounded Hebrew to me. The baby in the basket makes sense, too. I've seen studies that found Jewish influences in the novel "Atlas Shrugged", by Ayn Rand, an atheist, but of Jewish ancestry and culture.

Rob, I'm submitting a parody, which should be up tomorrow! it's not the bug, or Joan Jett one yet, so let's let it be a surprise! also, a "King Of The Hill" parody would be a good idea! got a clever title? :)

For an excellent read that engages this subject, I recommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, a novel by Michael Chabon. It is set in the early 1940s, and it is to the comic book creation/business and second-generation Jewish-Americans what Moby-Dick is to whaling. I do not exaggerate. Siegel, Shuster, Stan Lee, etc., are incidental figures. Reading it, you can smell the ink and stacks of pulp paper.
Sociologist - March 30, 2017 - Report this comment
The proximate reason for Superman was Jewish wish-fulfillment for a superhero, given the oppression their kin were suffering at the time in Europe. That is much more important than the religious and ancient historical folderol that Rob cites. Max Baer, heavyweight champ for a short time in the 1930s, wore a Star of David on his trunks, but did his training in nightclubs. Big disappointment. That brings us around to the power of oppressed minorities when they are allowed freedom of expression: the Broadway musical of the Jews, the jazz of the African-Americans, and the police brutality of the Irish!

You got it right, Sociologist. And the Eyetalians gave us organized crime, yer Polacks became our meatheads, and the Grecians invented the all-night diner. No more comments until I'm granted impunity.

Oy'll be taking issue with Sociologist's insinerations that my Hibernian brethren in blue engaged in the tord degree. Who'll be coming up up with the torm "paddy wagon?" Who'll be the unfo-o-o-rtunates who were rounded oap and thrown in said paddy wagons? Would it not be the very same Soans of Hibernia who took the name of the blessed St Patrick? So, by the blood of me sainted grandmo-o-other Kate, I wont be hearing any more of this Irish cop roabbish, will I?

I'm looking for the address of the Irish American Anti-Defamation League. Probably in the basement of O'Reilly's Saloon.

All the former Stasi officials are now taxi drivers. This is very handy . Just tell them your name and they already know where you live!
