Song Parodies -> "(Kill) The Longest Thread"

Original Song Title:

"The Longest Time"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Billy Joel

Parody Song Title:

"(Kill) The Longest Thread"

Parody Written by:

The Anti-L.T.E. Gang

The Lyrics

This parody is about a thread on the messagboard known as "Longest Thread Ever", which to me sounds like a dumb name for a discussion topic. Also, I don't know why it had to get started in the first place; it makes hardly any sense to me.
Oh...oh,oh,oh
Kill the Longest Thread.
Oh, oh, oh,
Kill the Longest--

If we said goodbye to L.T.E.,
That would be extremely fine with me.
What else can be done?
I surely don't think it's fun.
I hope that Chucky kills the Longest Thread!

When the so-called "L.T.E." is gone,
I'll know that my happiness goes on.
The thread means nothing!
Please post threads that mean SOMEthing!
That hasn't happened with the Longest Thread.

Whoa, oh, oh, oh...
Kill the Longest Thread!
Whoa, oh, oh,
Please delete it!

I'm just hoping someday it gets canned.
Its replies are getting out of hand,
With too much nonsense
Including pointless comments;
That's why I don't support the Longest Thread!

Maybe this won't last very long.
"Longest Thread Ever"--that name sounds so wrong.
There's no useful point in that thread.
When it's fin'lly dead,
That is just what I'll hope for.

Who knows how much further it goes on?
I sure won't be sorry when it's gone.
Some folks may love it,
But I just want no part of it.
Why do we need a so-called "Longest Thread"?

I don't see why it had to start.
One thing is for sure: I'll never take part.
Every time it's bumped, it makes less sense.
I might seem rather tense,
But it's more than I hoped for.

I don't care what consequence it brings.
I'm just bothered by unpleasant things.
If it's deleted,
Then I won't have to read it.
I intend to stay out of the Longest Thread.

Whoa, oh, oh, oh...
Kill the "Longest Thread"!
Whoa, oh, oh,
No more "Longest Thread"!
Whoa, oh, oh,
Kill the "Longest Thread"!
Whoa, oh, oh,
No more "Longest Thread"!
Whoa, oh, oh,
I wish it was dead!
Whoa oh oh...

Um...what about just not reading it? It's a thought....
Clucky The Chicken - July 26, 2006 - Report this comment
I think the author makes some very excellent points here. LTE really is a meaningless thread, and it has no useful purpose whatsoever. Most people might not see that, but we're entitled to our opinions. Still, the idea of a "Longest Thread" is rather silly, as the author said; even the name doesn't tell what it's about. The author is also right about it "making less sense" each time it's bumped. I'm in favor of it being dumped as well. Anyway, this is a well-written composition, and it's perfectly paced. 5,5,5.

Btw, I used to be a member on the messageboard, but I never posted in that thread. In fact, I made very few posts altogether.
Clucky The Chicken - July 26, 2006 - Report this comment
By the way, Kristof... do you ever read the Playful Penguin Place?
The Anti-L.T.E. Gang - August 03, 2006 - Report this comment
Hmmm...this one's not getting as much traffic as I'd anticipated. I expected to see some comments from the thread's proponents, saying things like "LTE is a great thread, why should it go?" and things like that. I guess not very many Amirighters read the Playful Penguin Place, or not very many people who post on the so-called L.T.E. know about Amiright. I have been thinking of writing a couple other anti-L.T.E. parodies...this was my first.

By the way, I'm glad you liked it, Clucky. Thanks for the vote and comment.

I wonder if LTE is sucking up all the bandwidth now. Maybe that's the reason why we can't get to the messageboard? Just a conjecture.

Banished Penguin: I think I know who you are. Thanks for the comment.

Some Person: I don't know, but it'll probably take up a lot of KB's in the Archives, that's for sure.

I read that thread, and it looks like LTE might not be going away. But if it's locked up, would that be another form of "killing" it?
Mrs MC Hammer - November 02, 2006 - Report this comment
Hey, I enjoyed this one! The pacing is excellent. Great choice of original song, too. LTE really is a dumb thread; I have come across it and seen all the nonsense posted on it. But yeah, I'm a tad surprised that LTE's supporters haven't come by and expressed their points of view.
The Anti-L.T.E. Gang - February 08, 2007 - Report this comment
Mrs M C Hammer, thank you for your vote and comment. Yeah, I really hope that the supporters of LTE see this at some point, regardless of what they have to say.

Clucky: if it's locked up, then it won't get any more traffic; that's for sure. But it doesn't look like it'll be locked up...however, I just happened to see some more inane replies on it not too long ago. Something has to be done.

I haven't read because to be honest I don't vote on songs that I haven't read, and haven't had time, although I'll go through it later and give my opinion. When someone says something about ones I tend to chime in though, just because of dealing with annonymous ones a lot myself. . .generally speaking, they rarely leave any information and the crisiticism when it's 111 is almost always they don't appreciate the topic, I wouldn't look into it because it rarely is because your parody deserved 111, not that I know on this one yet, but I'll give my vote probably sometime late tonight or tomorrow-not feeling well myself, and wanted to check latest comments.
The Anti-L.T.E. Gang - February 19, 2007 - Report this comment
Hi, Mr. Dave. Thanks for taking the time to write a comment. If you ever read the Playful Penguin Place section on the messageboard, then you will know exactly which thread I am referring to. I'm guessing the Ones voter was either 1) an L.T.E. supporter who doesn't wanna tell us who s/he is or 2) just a random troll.

Thank you, Who Cares What My Name Is (clever name). I agree with your comment entirely. One other beef I have, I hate it when they use that thread to discuss things we already have specific threads for. I couldn't incorporate that part in here, but if I decide to do a follow-up parody, maybe I'll see if I can work it in.

And also, there is a point to the longest thread. To get it longer than any other. It's like a penguin board game, yanno? Either way, you don't have to like it... But why do you care whether it's there or not? Out of curiosity...

DKTOS The idea behind the thread was partly to try and create the longest thread ever (by the original poster at least) and also to stop many other threads wandering off into pointless tangents.

I seen the link to this parody in the comments on my Bump Me parody(I don't mind one way or the other). I'm pretty neutral about LTE, but your parody is well paced and you express your opinion well, 5s.
The Anti-LTE Gang - December 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Ah yes...now I see comments from a few Playful Penguin Place regulars! Sorry for my delay in responding.

Meat! & Karen: This parody was co-written by a certain member who dislikes L-T-E for a number of reasons. First of all, this member (whose name I will not mention) has stated that he doesn't like L-T-E because it was started by a deleted user, and he doesn't feel that a "destined-to-be-popular" thread in a members only forum should be started by someone with a deleted account.

Doms: I kinda understand where you're coming from, with regards to "creating the longest thread possible", but things like that take time; Rome wasn't built in a day. This brings me to another point: this member also feels that in the thread's proponents' defense, LTE should have been started long before February 2005, so that the name might make a little more pragmatic sense. And I'm sorry if you don't like my second verse; I was just trying to pace those lines with the corresponding lines of the OS. Gave me a low score too? Fine, be that way. I'm not going to apologize for my personal thoughts.

Karen: I'm suprised you don't know this song; it was one of Billy's biggest hits. It was a track from his album 'An Innocent Man', and it did pretty well on the charts. I'm sure you can find it on Youtube; they have lots of popular songs from over the years.

Step-chan: thank you for your kind feedback. I thought maybe you might've supported it, but I'm glad you had some kind words to say.

You saying "This parody was co-written by a certain member who dislikes the LTE ..." tells me who, in part, was involved. Still say those are bonkers reasons not to like a thread. If you don't like it don't read it. No one is ever forcing you to.
The Anti-LTE Gang - March 04, 2008 - Report this comment

I think the author has presented a good message with this parody. After all, the idea of a messageboard is to have conversation within topics and the rightly the topic remains within that thread. So in a proper discussion (on any subject), or at a debate, deviation is not allowed, because it would undoubtedly make things confusing.

I would like to see at least one or two additional parodies on this subject matter; this one is quite well written and paced.

Double-You Tee Eff? A few more 1's votes were spotted on this parody again. Why? To those people: if you don't agree with the content, that's fine, but to vote 1's in all categories, including the pacing, is not very nice. I know this parody is well paced... and if you guys don't like it, then tough beans...but be sure to respect the pacing before hitting it with more 1s. I'm gonna report this to Chucky.
Double-You Tee Eff? El oh El - September 26, 2008 - Report this comment
About the parody: Pacing good, not terribly funny. About the thread: -"First of all, this member (whose name I will not mention) has stated that he doesn't like L-T-E because it was started by a deleted user, and he doesn't feel that a "destined-to-be-popular" thread in a members only forum should be started by someone with a deleted account." Then explain 'The Person Above Me Thread' to me. The contributing member posts there so his argument isn't very valid. -"LTE really is a meaningless thread, and it has no useful purpose whatsoever." Same as 'I Like to Move it in M C Hammer's Pants' and half the threads in WoW and PPP go off-topic anyway. Get over it. Don't like it, don't read it! 'nuff said.
The author - September 30, 2008 - Report this comment
Shut up. Person above me thread was also started by a user who was later banned, but that thread has a useful purpose, esp in the name. The member who helped write this parody feels that an anything-goes type of thread should have a more meaningful name to it, that's what 'Miscellaneous' is about. And with regards to Mc hammer's pants, that one was originally started to poke fun at the threads that got regularly viewed by guests, such as Nib Oswald and Rubixgirl's Profile. Full underscore house underscore fan is the dumbest-looking deleted moniker ever.

And said member (and all other anti-L-T-E-ists) will NOT get over it, because they find the presence of it annoying. Just ignoring it will NOT make it go away. However, others have pointed out that its proponents have been using it as a standard for copying/ripping off ideas from previously-established threads, and the amount of inane crap that has been posted in it should be construed as grounds for eventual deletion of it. As I recall that was what eventually led to Bump Me getting destroyed.

so mister ElohEl (or whatever the hell you are), just back off.

Hello Andria, thank you for your vote and comment; I appreciate your feedback. Yeah, it wasn't taken down, like I'd originally hoped 3 years ago, but that's ok with me right now. However, if its clique starts to continually overrun the board with it (like they seem to be doing lately) and gets too outta hand, then I may decide to have a word with the admins about it.

Also, I thought that you were briefly a member of the board not too long ago, AND you'd made a few postings in L-T-E. But you're right, it does seem like it's filled with a lot of nonsensical stuff (a few posts of which do appear to be spam-like).

Once again, thank you very much for your kind comment; that really means a lot to me.

Snoz should trust Midas because he's a DJ and knows music :-)

snoz forgot to say something.... people aren't posting in LTE instead of other threads... what happens several of the regular PPP members post in similar threads. sometimes conversations cross because good natured ribbing takes place or one person makes a comment that reminds the other of something and human nature being what it is the conversation follows its natural course. I said it before and I'll say it again... when two people get together to talk in person -some of you may have experienced this phenomenon before- then they have an exchange of dialogue. They never talk about only one thing and nothing else...they talk about multiple things simultaneously...unless they are automatons then- yes there is no conversational flow.... only words.... snoz is done....for now.

I also was very impartial, and noted that I gave this parody 5's for pacing, but that comment was deleted. Also, very good points Snoz. I agree with you. On everything.

Thanks Ash I guess no one wants to dialogue with me

Look guys, this is a parody comment thread intended solely for feedback on the parody, NOT a place to have a conversation. This parody is being watched for conversational comments, which have been reported on numerous parody comment threads in the past, and we ask that you please stop.

Parody pacing and funniness! 5's That being said, I wrote a parody about Red Ant, and was told immediately that it was an attack parody and should be removed. Even though this parody is years old now, it is still an attack and likewise should be removed. LTE in itself is a thread about nothingness, where people can go and post about anything they want, without worrying about going off topic or being criticized for not following the rules. I recently read the ENTIRE thread, and as a moderator I find nothing within it that necessitates it's locking or deletion. If you choose not to participate in it, that is your choice. But it doesn't mean that your choice dictates what should be done with the thread. It isn't hurting anyone. Live and let live.

No wonder Tam hasn't talked to me in a week: it probably took her that long to speed-read the LTE. =)

I was going to defer this parody and its comments to Tam since it's not really an amiright issue. That being said (or typed), I'm not removing any comments from this thread here.

BTW, to "Website Editor": yes, you are one, but you also know that I am the only one here who uses that name, and rarely at that. To be frank, if you stop making decade complaints, I might take your reports more seriously.

Back on the topic of paroody, it's a shame you don't write more or submit under your commonly known name. You've got a technically great parody here, and, believe me, if I thought it sucked I would tell you so.

Like Tam wrote, let this topic go.

Hey, my security code is "LTE":

...just kidding. =)
