The Lyrics

Ah, it feels nice to finally have another song grace the front page. It's been too many months since the last one - ideas have kept flowing, but the rest of the rhymes haven't been. I don't think this is one of my better ones, but then again, I said the same thing about my Money for Nothing parody, so feel free to prove me wrong again like you did on that one :D.
LA, I can't see
I'm sneezing
A place like this
Should have a warning
It's dangerous
I'm wheezing

There's no escape
I can't wait
Need oxygen
Baby, give me it
Air's odorous
I'm hating it

This crap
Won't come down
It's in the air
Yeah, it's all around
And it turns the sky brown

Cause we all make our trips
In our own ride
Air's toxic
That was a blunder
But a car minus poison's paradise
Love what my car can do,
Though I know that it's toxic
I'm addicted to you
Our airflow now is toxic

My mouth had got
So very chapped
I took a sip
Yeah, right from my tap
Quickly
And not too happily

This crap
Fills our town
It's from the air
And from all around
Turns our water brown

Just a drop on my lips
I'm all grossed out
It's toxic
That was a blunder
Looks like some milk got filled with lice
And it tastes just like poo
Yech, this stuff must be toxic
And the stench makes you spew
Can't you tell that it's toxic?
Just the smell must be toxic!

Eeeeeeeeew! Eeeeeeeeew!

Drop on my lips
I'm all grossed out
It's toxic
That was a blunder
Looks like some milk got filled with lice
And it tastes just like poo
Yech, this stuff must be toxic

Just a drop on my lips
I'm all grossed out
It's toxic
That was a blunder
The taste of this crud is not too nice
Yeah, I'd rather drink glue
Least I *know* why it's toxic

I hate this place right now
It's too smoggy now
I think I'm movin' now
(I think I'm movin' now)
I hate this place right now
Hate pollution now
I think I'm movin' now

Hey, nem, this song came out last year. It shoulda been labeld as 2000's.
Starlette Victory - November 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Have some 5's. :-) *cough cough*

I don't have a capitalized name. Therefore, whoever just made a comment in my name is stupid, because that's not even my name :P. Also, um... why'd I just get 1'd twice? With no comments? Oh, and thanks for the 5s, Starlette.

It's just that TOS came out in the two thousands; I don't know how you could think it came out b4 then, because it didn't. See you in court. (As for the people who one'd you, maybe one of those was Mr. Aoid, who obviously didn't bother to leave a comment.)

nem - saw your item in the "Messageboard" section. I am a "DKTOS" on this but it doesn't look like it deserves any low scores from what I see. Maybe Mayor Hahn or the Chamber of Commerce dropped in and felt slighted...the air was pretty clean today here in L.A. after all that wind and rain this past weekend - even where I work now (East L.A.)...

Or maybe it was the Decade Police who gave a 1-1-1 vote.

Fume-men could parody this song as well as you did. 5s

(SOTM) What do you get if you crossbread neminem and Britney Spears? A new turn of the Acid House genre? :-)
Adagio - December 09, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) DKTOS, but a really good read!

Forgot to put this in my initial comment (SOTM) :)

Grew up in that smog. Warped me to this day.

(SOTM) The only thing these new songs are good for is parodies.

SOTM--that's why I love living here in the mountains where the air is clear and the snow freezes your ass off! Nice job...

This song reminds me of my vacation to southern california...

How'd the song go:
"If you visit American city, you will find it very pretty
Just two things of which you must beware:
Don't drink the water, and don't breathe the air" ;-)
John Jenkins - December 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Well done, neminem. But, if you think the smog is bad now, you should have breathed it 30 years ago.
neminem - December 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Phil: yup, that's one of my favorite Lehrer songs. I got to sing it at a choir concert (of sorts) earlier this semester... that was fun. Jenkins: yeah, I've heard. I go to Mudd, one of the schools in the Claremont Consortia. When my dad was looking at colleges, he considered one of the other Claremont schools, and then immediately rejected it solely due to the smog. In honesty, I really hardly even notice it (the water is kinda nasty, but still drinkable). So yeah, this song is an immense exaggeration, but I thought it too good an idea to ditch, anyway. All: thanks for continuing the stream of 5s :D.

A place like this DOES have a warning, nem. It's the sign that says "Entering Los Angeles." Nice job and welcome back. And to John Jenkins' comment: 30 years ago? Try 35. That stuff in the California air in 1969 could really get in your head, man.

(SOTM) neminem, great job.

(SOTM) Britney Spears is toxic, and just the right topic for a photochemical parody like this. 555

Don't have the smoggiest idea what you're talking about =)
Paul Robinson - December 31, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Still DKTOS here, but it's still a fine work. And I have lived in L.A. since 1959 and can testify that the smog was much more toxic at that time than it is today. There used to be a really ugly, foul inversion layer that I could see virtually EVERY day when I came down off the hill I lived on to go to school. I still get around that part of town now and then and it is nowhere near as visible as it was back in the early-to-mid 60's...

excellent wordplay here .... and such interesting comments! 555

I would have voted 555 if only you had put the correct time frame. TOS did not exist more than five years ago.
