Song Parodies -> "Boring Words"

Original Song Title:

"More Than Words"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Extreme

Parody Song Title:

"Boring Words"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

Gary Chirone has a good voice but TOS is boring and was played to death locally when it first came out, so it gets lampooned.
[boring acoustic guitar intro]

Sing a soft rock..tune
With boring words and none will remember you
It's not that I hate.. you
Just not great, in-fact it really blew
These.. lyrics,
They do seem so phony and unreal..
Boring words...
Is all I have to sing to make you reel...
And no drummin' is so lame..
Not quite "Ex-treme.."
More like.. a.. he-avy.. drone,

Dah dah.. doo doo..,
'nother song that's down the tubes
Boring words annoying me..
As I sing this parody..
What do.. you say..,
To a song that's sonic waste?
And you may well find this crude
I just say STFU...*

Blah-blabity-blah....
Boring words

And now I am half..through
Boring you with words you cannot stand
All I have to do is harmonize
With this guy in my band
And here comes..,
Where my voice Gets So! Loud! Still! I! BLOW!..
Boring words...
Is all I ever sing and you now know..
That our drummer's off today
Not quite "Ex-treme.."
More like.. a.. he-avy.. drone,

Dah dah.. doo doo..,
'nother song that's ripped in two
Boring words annoying me..
As I sing this parody..
What do.. you say..,
To a song that's over-played?
And you may well find this crude
I just say STF...U...*

Blah-blabity-blah....
Boring words

[fade with a minute of boring outro vocals]

Thans Huff, Arwen, and Alvin. Arwen, sorry for ripping apart a song you love, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I don't fight women though so if it'll make you feel better go ahead and 511 vote this, I'll still respect your adorable, brilliant (s)elf in the morning. ;-)

I never got the so called greatness of this song either, or the band for that matter, first they came up with one of the smartest titles ever (not even Eminem gets away with putting the word porno on a cover) and then they do this. OK, so they sold millions, that only goes to prove that pps will pay to watch a suicide in public...

Thanks Peter, Pat, PMS and LucidLupin LeeBee. Peter, I didn't realize that Extreme had done anything before this song, except for "Hole Hearted".

For extreme info, check the ads on the right! :-)

On another note: Is'nt Gary Chirone the guy who sang in Van Halen for a while, after Hagar?

Can't argue with you on this one. I liked the tune at first but, it was WAY overplayed. 555

I like TOS but I can completely understand where you're coming from with this well-written and highly amusing parody. And yes, Extreme did make a lot of songs before the Pornograffiti album (its full name is "Extreme II Pornograffiti," which implies it's the band's second album). Here's a bit of eighties rock music/movie trivia: remember that part in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" where all the historical figures were crashing the mall to a most triumphant guitar-driven rock anthem? That was "Play With Me," off Extreme's first album. Fear Nuno!

I have to admit that I like the original too (to some extent). I remember when it came out; I was in high school at the time. The song appealed to me for a while, then after it got lots of airplay I began to get tired of it. But I still like it now. Anyway, this parody is very well written. I enjoyed reading it. 5-5-5 ;)

Thanks Olvan and Serafina. Olvan, unfortunately all that my mind is coming up with at the moment is the guitar part in Bo Rhap, but I'll go to Amazon and listen to a sample of "Play With Me".

Serafina, TOS when it came out was instantly on heavy rotation on my local radio station, hence I never got the chance to become slowly acclimated to it. Hell, I can't stand to listen to "Man In The Box" anymore because of the same reason and Alice in Chains is my favorite band.

I finally get to this parody. As usual with a parody of a boring song, the MIDI was Extremely boring (pun intended), but I thought about how funny it would be if Gary Cherrone had actually sung these lyrics instead of TOS. Maybe people would have liked TOS better with your lyrics. 555 This parody is more than words can describe.
Brian - March 26, 2006 - Report this comment
Great parody. The radio stations out here on the West Coast WAY overplayed this tune, too. Also, in response to Peter Andersson's question: Indeed, Gary Cherone did replace Sammy Hagar as Van Halen's lead vocalist. Van Halen III was a great album in my book (a lot of folks may disagree with me on this one, but that's ok); however, my only gripe about that album was that Cherone sounded too much like Hagar. Otherwse, it was a great album.

ABC- I loved the "Blah-blabity-blah....Boring words" part! Excellent job!
bobpiecheese - April 11, 2010 - Report this comment
(ABC-AB) I guess the only good thing about the OS is that the video provided the basis for Weird Al's vid for "You Don't Love Me Anymore". That said, by this time I think you have parodies that slag off on the OS down to a science. A very funny, awesome kind of science that produces 555's like crazy.

Good as usual Red Ant. . .though I've seen this kind of parody by you before, you have performed this in front of me, I know how it sounds live.
Red Ant - April 12, 2010 - Report this comment
Thanks everyone! Despite the fact that I cant stand TOS, I have heard it enough that I can sing it to a perfect score in Sing Star - Dave can verify that one too. =D
