Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"I Don't Really Care"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

I took a few liberties pacing this. Note to the satire impaired: I do care. I care a lot, but Faith No More already did that one. =)
I was kickin' right back on my porch on Dontgivaf*cca Road
Laughing at all that matters in the world, see, I have this code
When you live on Dontgivaf*cca, man it is really sweet
Because other peoples' problems are of no concern to me
As long as I get paid on Friday ...I'm one happy man
For the rest: "Listen - frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"

I don't really care, man
I don't really care, man
Never a despair, man
Don't pry into affairs, and
Won't worry about what's fair plan
I don't really care!

Don't care 'bout:
Dolphins
Nor children
Villains
Sicilians
Trump's billions
Hurt feelings
Glass ceilings
Anger
Hunger
Hummers
Faith healings
Fitness
Tactfulness
Thoughts repressed
Those possessed
PMS
Wilderness
Tenderness
Breastices
Those depressed
A world distressed
Nonetheless
If you're a mess
You can guess that

I don't really care, man!
I don't really care, man
About the age of Cher, man
Or little kids that swear, damn!
Whatever became of hair bands?
I don't really care!

Don't care 'bout:
Parents
Presidents
Junior Mints
Paying rent
Innocence
Offense
Defense
Governments
Impotence
Ignorance
Lesbians
Aliens
Arrogance
Errands
Incompetence
Decadence
Extravagance
50 cent
Confidence
Air defense
Common sense
Those "on the fence"
Your MySpace friends
And all the French! whee!

I don't really care, man
I don't really care, man
"Britney showed down there!", and?
"We breath polluted air!", and?
You've artwork that's really rare, and
I don't really care!

Don't care 'bout:
Conversation
Conservation
Crippled Patients
Demonstrations
Dedication
Domination
Education
Explanations
Fabrications
Generations
Hibernation
Immigration
Land invasions
Legislation
Medications
Meditation
Operations
The population
Regulations
Situations
Transportation
United Nations
Your vacation
Or the Asians!

I don't really care, man
I don't really care, man
'bout your problems there, man
Your screaming "life's unfair!", whaa!
As long as I get my share, man
I don't really care!

Don't care 'bout:
Greeting cards
Meeting stars
EV cars
Meteors
Life on Mars
Singles bars
Death from SARS
Greedy whores
Need a penny
Take a penny
Have plenty
Augmented lips
Pink slips
Cargo ships
Jumbo hips
Potato chips
Advertising
Enterprising
Super-sizing
All committees
If you're witty
Or unpretty
Won't get my pity
And screw these cities!

I don't flippin' care, man
I don't friggin' care, man
Sit back in my chair, and
Rest my derriere, man
Off into space I just stare, man
I don't ever care!

I - DON'T - FREAKIN' - CARE!

I have often walked down this street before
But it never seemed so funny or so sweet before
All at once am I
Giving you Five High
Know that I'm on the street where you live

Are there homeless folks in the heart of town?
I don't care; my house is in another part of town
What a monstrous bore
Things like these, and more
I'm with you on the street where you live
And oh! the glowering feeling
Just to know you think these things suck
The overpowering feeling
That someone besides myself don't give a f***

People rant and rave; how they bother me
You don't like it here? Go somewhere that you'd rather be
Let the bulls**t fly! I don't care 'cause I
Am with you on the street where you live!
("On the Street Where You Live", from "My Fair Lady"

I'm with you on most of this, but hey! -- leave our own PMS out of this!... Oh, wait, you meant the syndrome, not the author...

Whoever oned you did not read it, this parody is very challenging, I applaud thee, and hope that by the time I get to Project 3, I'll get a chance to show off my true creativity (These first 2 sets represent my growth over the years, with "Every Call I Make" and "Dead End Jobs" being a good indication of where I'm headed and "No Hos" and "The Meat Song" being good indications of where I started, and the other songs representing everything in between). . .you are quite talented Red Ant. . .555

Fitu, the only faulty clock is inside your head. By the way, this is well paced.

I'm glad for the disclaimer in your top comments. Otherwise I might have taken the line about PMS personally and overdosed on Midol and chocolate;) As always a great job LOL funny! Thanks TT for your support.

Sorry, your pacing was off in a couple of places, so I'll have to give you a '1' in that category. Oh, wait, you already know that I don't care about that. Your vacation/or the asians, heh, heh. Well done. 'lips/slips/ships/hips/chips'? Come on, Jack, there's more 'ips' than that and you know it. :cp

Also, props for fitting junior mints in there, and everything else. The next step is singing it, right?
Spaff.com - January 22, 2007 - Report this comment
Excellent, Red. "Hair bands" is a delightful, unexpected rhyme (in the chorus, not verse, no less), and "Your MySpace friends" made me laugh, since I just spent weeks redesigning my Top 24. My fave verse/list is the third - great continuous rhyme - even if "United Nations" made my brain detour into "Give Peace a Chance" (I expected the next line to be "Congratulations"). Fun stuff.
Stuart McArthur - January 24, 2007 - Report this comment
wow, and a bonus cameo track from Tommy Turtle - and that's 2 list parodies of yours I've read in half an hour Jack - from one who claims to have not done one until recently - and you're right about Cher - nobody's been caring about her age for almost 106 years now - 555

List parodies like this one, and We Didn't Start The Fire, are very difficult, because you can't leave any lines the same, you need to change just about every word to fit it into the parody in order for it to make sense and be funny. Thus these kinds of parodies get my outmost respect.
Below Average Dave - February 13, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I technically already commented on this one, but it was more conversational to you. . .than anything. . .so now more on the parody. There are a lot of things on your list that imagining someone singing to it would be quite hilarious. Red Ant, this one is a great idea as far as a parody in that it encompasses the original idea. I know you took some liberties on the pacing, that is no joke, what I found interesting about it is that your words, while not always meshing perfectly, they meshed with each other. . .kinda I don't care about this, but I don't care about that either---Perhaps Offense followed by Defense showed that most clearly. Clearly when you wrote this song you were in a mood, hey--you never did update your job situation buddy--how's it going?
tomario - February 15, 2007 - Report this comment
you showed great patience and great word play ever thought of doing "mediate" by inxs ?a lot of work and a great result (no i'm not gonna say it) oh alright then ...but i don't care !!! 555 top parody

(SOTM) see above - great work on this one Jack - the choruses were my favourite bits, and I thought they paced beautifully, esp the "rest my derriere" and the Britney lines - ccould this OS be the supercali of '04, the MMG of '05, and the BOG of '06?
Tim Mayfield - February 28, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I can understand why you wouldn't care about most of these.. but Super-sizing?? How can one not care about that? Still you did a fabulous job and even if you don't care, I gave 5's at the office.

SOTM - I could swear I commented on this already, I guess not. Great parody. I have yet to successfully match a parody of this OS to the OS, but I suppose it's all in the pronunciation and not getting tongue-tied. Very funny subs here and great rhymes!

Thanks to Kristof, Glen x 2, Spaff, Stu x 2, Aggy, Jason, Michael, Max, Matthias, Dave, Tomario, Peter, Phil, Johnny D, Tim, Charnstar, Jack amd Jay.

Kristof: I wish I had remembered that you like 50 Cent: I would have issued you a challenge to do one of his songs. =)

Glen: Given that everything I've said I wanted to record in the past year has fallen through, perhaps I can reverse jinx myself here and say I'm never recording this one.

Spaff: You have a top 24? Geez, I think I've got 3 friends on Myspace, lol. I, too, like the third chorus, though singing it is hairy since I took the most pacing liberties there: a recording (which I won't make) would probably be only 22 of those 24 "-ations" for singability.

Stu: This, "The Elements", and "My Favorite Things" are my only "list" parodies, and all were done fairly recently. I'm not sure this is going to be a staple song for '07 - I wouldn't bet on it.

Michael: I'll check out your version of this OS in a bit.

Matthias: Not to mention the odd rhyme scheme and inconsistent verses. I'm pleased though to receive your "outmost respect". =)

Dave: I think I sent a PM about it, but the job situation is resolved for now. As for being in a mood, yes, I was: the store that night was all out of Junior Mints. ;)

Tomario: I have a completed parody of "Mediate" written, but I never posted it since it's just a list of rhymes with no meaning, much like the original, and therefore not much of an improvement (though I did vary the second half of the song instead of repeat it like INXS did). If I can find it, I'll post it just for you.

Peter: I'm sure that "I don't give a f*** about apathy" would be a killer bumper sticker if only more people knew what "apathy" meant.

Phil: Great recording you made. Not sure if I commented on the song itself yet... I'll take a look in a bit.

Johnny D: Not caring about pacing? Heresy! ;)

Tim: "Supersizing" here generally means you get the same amount of food in a bigger container, and get charged thirty cents more for it.

Charnstar: If I ever don't record this, feel free to blast it as loud as possible.

Jay: And not running out of breath, and not caring enough to not record this.

Thanks again, all.
