The Lyrics

Iīm the first to admit that the pacing isnīt perfect, thereīs an extra syllable in a few places, but Iīve tried to be consequent with giving the same type of lines the same type of phrasing, so it would work as karaoke. :-)
Maybe Ma should have let you, build a house, in the trees
Maybe Pa should have tought you, ībout the fusion, and the bees
Little things to set you straight as child
But you were much too wild
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!

Maybe girls didnīt date you, you were lonely, at the prom
And I guess they came to hate you, itīs not sexy, making bombs
Things that made you feel bad as teen
You deserved them, you were mean
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!

Tell us, tell us how you came to grow to man
Tell us, why you came to take on Uncle Sam
Uncle Sam

No more tricks to keep you in the game
Youīre going down in flames
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!

Tell us, tell us that you finally are dead
We need, no excuse to fill your head with lead

You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!
You were always bad Saddam!

Maybe you didnīt like school, īcos you blew it, in grade four
Maybe you didnīt have cool, just like bush you got no score
Maybe Freud would have liked you, īcos you suck, more than a bit
And I guess this war has psyched you, when you get it, youīll be split

I take it "based on the performance by" shows which version you're copying, rather than who had it originally. (Mark James wrote it for Elvis in '72. He also wrote "Suspicious Minds.") The Pet Shop Boys did not do this song well. That's what did they, what did they, what did they do to deserve that.

Michael, I agree about this song not being PSBs best work, and I do know it wasnīt their creation originally, but since you seem to know a lot about it, hasnīt it been covered by others too? Possibly even Willie Nelson? Disco, country, rock, it seems to be one of those that can be covered in any genre. Also, Iīm under the impression that PSB are not that big in the states, any opinion on that?

Willie did it in '82, ten years after Elvis but a few years before we heard of the PSBs, which sounds like something Al Gore used to bore us with. They're not well-thought-of here for two reasons: Synthesizers are held in roughly the same esteem as artificial turf, and they came off (no pun intended) as gay Robert Palmers, which doesn't do him any favors. But they did give Dusty a boost, so that's in their favor.

That kinda explains it then. Though I must say that I was really surprised to realise that this one of mine was the first parody here of one of theirs. Over here in Sweden they are among the top bands of all time, if counting the number of hits they had on the chart. Like other gay bands (Village People, Army of Lovers, etc) they are really good with catchy choruses.
