The Lyrics

We are all guilty of pulling sickies at work from time to time!
When your night was long and your head, your head is all drunk up
When you're sure you've had enough of your job, a sickie
Don't get out of bed, 'cause everybody skives and every body shirks sometimes

Sometimes the boss is wrong, Now its time to run along
When your job is bored alone, (hang on hang on)
If you hate your mananager, (bog off)
When you think you've had too much crap from this job, well, phone in.

'Cause everybody shirks, Stay at home with your friends
Everybody shirks. Don't go to work. Oh, no. Don't go to work
If you think your boss is dumb, no, no, no, you are not so wrong.

If you're bored alone, in this job, the job and days are long
When you think you've had too much of this job to hand on.

Well, everybody shirks sometimes
Everybody skives. And everybody shirks sometimes
And everybody shirks sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Everybody shirks. You are not alone.

Thanks John and McKludge

Never heard of the term "Shirk" before I read this parody, or "Skives", but a decent parody about a Sicko.
Agrimorfee - February 13, 2008 - Report this comment
SOTM--A bit repititious.
Jason - February 13, 2008 - Report this comment
'Shirk' and 'Skive' are two other words describing laziness.

SOTM- Gotta say, that was awesome! 5-5-5

(SOTM-JAN) Great shirk & jive and if I weren't so shirky I'd plant ya fives. J/K.

So are you gonna shirk work to read, judge and vote in the SOTM too? :-)
Michael McVey - February 26, 2008 - Report this comment
Valid point, but you must look at the big picture. I hear you Americans aren't having a good economy right now, and that means it may be wiser to hold on to a bad job than it was a few years ago.
Red Ant - February 26, 2008 - Report this comment
Nice work on a "tougher than it looks" song. Great topic and I loved "bog off". 5s
bobpiecheese - February 27, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Kinda short. Pretty good, but I'll always prefer Wierd Al's "Callin' In Sick".

Thanks Peter, Michael, Jack and Bobpiecheese.

Peter: I have already placed my votes!
Michael: I am not American, im British.
Jack: Thanks for that! I liked that part as well
Bob: Thanks.

(SOTM) Short and sweet.

Well, I don't ;-)

...but I guess "nearly everybody shirks" doesn't scan so well

Good OS, and good job doing a song to it (I agree with Red Ant, it's harder than it looks). Didn't know what shirks and skives meant before reading this, but it was obvious in the context of the song, so that didn't take anything away from it (my fault for not knowing it, and getting stuck thinking shirks and skins). Well done.

(SOTM) Well, I DO know what shirks and skives means, and I gotta say this is one of your tightest parodies, Jase! It's a REALLY hard OS to parody well, and despite the repitition, it works rather well....I would imagine it would be better as a recorded work. Bravo. 555+

I agree you made something from a rather short and quirky OS.
I can also relate to what a drag it is to work for an idiot boss...I'm self-employed...
