The Lyrics

NOTE: I am totally for the message behind the Sarah McLaughlan/ASPCA commercials...just not the guilt trip they put me on in the process. Original Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1GmxMTwUgs
Spent my whole night reading
Cramming for exams
I’ve been studying all through the day
On the television
Went to commercial spot
And a song made me stop in my place
It’s such a distraction
Yet beautiful and sweet
What I saw next would just bring me pain
There was a kitty
A cute little puppy
And I felt so bad that night...

Thanks to those damn commercials
Made me shed a tear
While I sit in my dorm room
And the animals domineer
Made me pull out my wallet
And give you all my money
I really don’t like to travel
but a guilt trip is so near

They looked right at my eyes
The channel wouldn’t turn
I was just so taken aback
And that Sarah McLaughlan
Her voice just makes me cry
You make me give all that I have
The sights are so intense
I’ll give you every dime
If you take your dog and leave
Ain’t it madness?
Oh, thanks to all this sadness
I can’t move from my seat

Thanks to those damn commercials
And that song I hear
I’ll feel like a bad person
If I don’t give anything here
Made me pull out my wallet
And give you all my money
Thanks to those damn commercials
I gave away all that’s dear
Thanks to those damn commercials
Put me on a guilt trip here

Hi. I'm Matthias Stove. Will you give a 555 to a great parody? Every day.... Screw it. I was going to parody Sarah McLaughlan's commerical in the form of my comment but then I saw those adorable puppies and kitties and started crying. Damn guilt trip! Great parody of a terribly depressing original song.

I'm a sucker for that stuff, too. Thank goodness I don't get cable anymore. Well done parody!

I am not sure if you were being satirical or sincere with this one, Abbott (as fine as the message is). If you were going for satire, it definitely could have used more bite. This was very hard to follow, no thanks to Sarah's slurred vocals. "The animals domineer"---I had to look that one up in the dictionary, and it is defined as "Assert one's will in an arrogant way". I dont think it really fits in this context.

(ABC) Never seen the commericals in question, and like Agri said, the point you were trying to make wasn't very clear. And bloody hell, the OS sucks. Not one of your best, Abbott, sorry.

(ABC) That OS is such a downer! I was on the fence about the meaning too. Knowing your writting style though, I assumed it was satirical. So it worked for me. Good job Abbott!
