The Lyrics

Uh huh yeah yeah

There's loads of carpetbaggers
making fortunes in Iraq
But you've got war zone profiteering-
Down to an art
Halliburton's got the oil sewn up
There ain't got no competition
With friends like Bush and Rumsfeld
Hey - you don't have to be so smart

Oh oh you think you're special
Oh oh you think you're something else

Okay so you're the Vice President

That don't impress me much
So ya got the power
You got the Midas touch
But wait till November
And that long election night
You'll be staring at defeat
In the early morning light

You know the game is up

Uh huh yeah yeah

You've been movin and a groovin
Got Nigerian gas in your pocket
Schmoozin old Gaddafi
Sanction bustin in Iran
You'd offer bribes to Satan
Sell Beelzebub a rocket
But with God on your side
You think the shit won't hit the fan

Oh oh you think you're special
Oh oh you think you're something else

Okay so you're Dick Cheney

That don't impress me much
So ya got the power
You got the Midas touch
But wait till November
And that long election night
You'll be staring at defeat
In the early morning light

Too late to sex it up

You're the kind of guy
who'd defraud his own nation
make us all pay our dues
To subsidise your sin
And you've been cookin the books
Like all those other corporations
So cmon Dick. admit it now
You just can't win

Oh oh you think you're special
Oh oh you think you're something else

Okay so you've got the White House

That don't impress me much
So ya got the power
You got the Midas touch
But wait till November
And that long election night
You'll be staring at defeat
In the early morning light

That don't impress me much
So ya think you're cool
You got the Midas touch
But wait till November
You know that I'm right
You'll be staring at defeat
All that long cold lonely night

Too late to sex it up

SOTM - DKTOS but I can see some very intricate word play going on here. Can't say I agree politically but it's a nice write just the same.

(SOTM AUG) Wow...great wordplay like Guy said...this is wild!

thanks for the comments .. btw if anyone out there is interested in the Halliburton story try " Halliburton: winning the Brown and Root way" by Collin Challen published in Lobster Summer 2004 pp 19 - 25 deals with the whole unedifying story starting in 1919......Lobster has a site but the journal is only available by subscription. If anyone is interested I will be happy to send you a copy by snail mail... It isn't reflected in this lyrics as such which was written before I read the Challen piece....

SOTM DKTOS Good write.
Phil Nelson - September 15, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I first thought this would be a Color Me Badd parody, about old people. Anyway, like I said in the "Kerry" parody, I like ones that attack either side, as they both have their faults. But I don't think political ones are that funny, though.

One of the luxuries of living in the West is that you can choose to be uninterested in politics. I say bring on the political parodies - but like parodies about any other topic, you just gotta make sure they're funny. I liked "Okay, so you're the Vice President - That don't impress me much."

It's bugging me 'cause I can't remember the original (apart from the one "that don't impress me much" line...) - and I know it's on one of the CDs in the car, but can't find the thing. But there's so many lovely lines in this one - wit with a very sharp cutting edge :-)

thanks for the comments if anyone is really into wild conspiracy theories check out the Stanley Hilton law suit......

(SOTM). "Okay so you've got the White House". What I actually do like about this one is the never outspoken, subtle way to pick on the top dog by all the way out sticking to a "wagging the dog" theme in that area without ever mentioning that the subject isn't numero uno.
martha - September 24, 2004 - Report this comment
just look up "stanley hilton" on Google eg http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:GoG2ySUJ4W4J:www.alwayson-network.com/comments.php%3Fid%3D5988_0_4_0_C+%22stanley+hilton%22&hl=en

(SOTM) You know, gas prices are really getting too high in LA. We need to find some more oil producing countries to invade.....
Paul Robinson - September 30, 2004 - Report this comment
(AUG SOTM) - I hope you are right, Martha. DKTOS, but I'm giving you 5's here, trusting the 11/14 other voters on the pacing. Aha! Meriadoc, caught yah! You ARE in LA, as I suspected...
