The Lyrics
I used to work on an Air Force Base in Florida, and wasted many an afternoon in useless meetings. This was inspired by them, but requires a little explanation below. If you've never worked in engineering or any technical field, it probably won't be that funny.
This ain’t sub shop
This ain’t no restaurant either
This is the ER! (1)
“All I wanna do is have some lunch before I die”
Says the guy next to me; works for software
I’ve seen his face before
I think is name is William but It could
Be Fred or Steven or Jack or Robert.
The speaker’s staring at me
And I wonder if he’s ever had a spot of lunch in his whole life
We are sitting here at noon on Tuesday
In a room the faces the DoS tarmac (2)
Those poor slobs from DEA (3) are washing the planes
Used to crop-dust,
hosing and scrubbing while I listen to this talking suit
Folks look intently at PowerPoint slides
About security and logistics too
Well, they’re nothing like William and me, cause
All I wanna do is have some lunch
From all the squirming, I’m not the only one
All I wanna do is have some lunch
Got a bad feeling this meeting has just begun
All I wanna do is have some lunch
I need a double-cheeseburger with a side of fries and a Diet-Coke™
I like to stare out the window when I’m stuck in meetings
And William likes to doodle
On the back of his slides
He sketches those in the room
Then he hits every page in the oversized stack
Searching each one for all of the big letters
That he can fill in; like “D”s and “O”s
And I’m watching the C-17’s (4) as they do touch-and-go’s
A young guy sneaks out the door
Dangerously close to getting caught
A manager looks up from his laptop
All I wanna do is have some lunch
From all the squirming, I’m not the only one
