It arose from a well named prophet's death in A.D. 33
But it wasn't until Constantine that the Rood would truly be!
As it gained adherents gradually by sermon or by blade...
It stomped into the history books as a glorious Crusade

As I cower here in abject fear
at religion people keep...
I'm sure that somewhere Jesus softly weeps...

Then there were pogroms, inquisitions as you strove for relevance!
You hammered out the dogma though your views made little sense!
Yes it took a Galileo to make your power shattered
But even in the wreckage you still said that Jesus mattered

Now filled with dread I shake my head
at religion people keep!
I'm sure that somewhere Jesus softly weeps...

People gain comfort from God
but I'm not one who sleeps!
As I search for where I know that Jesus weeps...

Humans sill sing of religious things in 2017 Domini!
To think we've travelled so far but I still do wonder why.
Will we ever have a faith whose godbound are not violent?
Maybe humans are the future and 'God' is impotent...
