Song Parodies -> "Moe's Tavern"

Original Song Title:

"Tom's Diner"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Suzanne Vega

Parody Song Title:

"Moe's Tavern"

Parody Written by:

Tim Hall

The Lyrics

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Homer's sitting
In the evening
At Moe's Tavern
On the corner

He is sitting
Next to Barney
Who likes to
Drink lots of Duff beer

And he belches
Very loudly
Just before
He starts to pass out

At the moment
Moe drags Barney
The telephone
is ringing

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Moe picks it up
and he answers
Moe's Tavern
How may I help you?

A young man speaks
and he asks for
a person named
Al Coholic

Moe than turns
the other way
And says there's a phone
call for Al

When he says he's
Al Coholic
Everyone
proceeds to laugh

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Moe then
Yells in the phone
Wanting to get
his hands on the prankster

Who had made
him look like a fool
by yelling for
Al Coholic

And it turned out
there were two involved
in this cute
harmless phone prank

Bart and Lisa
Simpson were the ones
And so
I raise my glass

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Homer tells Moe
That he hope that
he can catch those
prank phone callers

He does not know
that the pranksters
are two of
his own young children

And we're trying
Not to notice
That he's seems to
be stupid

And when he
runs out of Duff
Homer wants
to make a drink

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

Tequila
Schnapps and Crème de Menthe
and Homer finds
Something to add

It is a
bottle of Krusty's
Non-Narkotik
Kough Syrup

It had a purple color
Homer poured it in
Moe blended the mixture
And poured in the glass

There went a cigarette ash
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo

I love The Simpsons and I think Suzanne Vega is a very good performer, but this parody left me completely indifferent. The amusement value of this song is generated solely by the fact that the original lyrics are replaced with a very well known scene from Moe's Tavern, but since there is no originality or humor apart from that, the whole thing seems pretty pointless.

Juxtaposition is never pointless.
