Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"My Facebook Friends"

Parody Written by:

Matthias

The Lyrics

My friends are by request
They all are people met in passing once
Online… No offer gets declined
My grocer Jill, Bus driver Bill

On Facebook there’s a bunch
None are hesitant
So their numbers grow
Nerds flaunt… Their 700 friends
They never met

I’m Facebook pals with you
Or so I’m told
That guard named Charlie who
Lifts the gate at my work

Know friends by profile pic
And status spawned
Who is this Tanya chick?
The clerk… At the Panda Express
On “Info” clicked

A friend request from you
Who I don’t know
The aunt of Kevin’s mom
Who I met in third grade

(Guitar solo while I update my Facebook status)

I’m somehow ‘friends’ with celebrities
Leave me appeased

I’m pals with Milton Berle
Although he’s dead
Social life’s pitiful
So add…
Your friend here on Facebook

It’s kinda sad
I know half of you
Half that I like
I’m Facebook friends with you
In life said “Go to Hell”

I think Sven in some sort of twisted German (sic!) tried to say he liked it, he's was commenting on my Swedish parody the other day that way too.

That said I'm soo unfriending you for stealing that Tanya chick and the aunt of Kevin’s mom from me... :-)

In that case sorry about that Sven. Thanks Peter for clearing that up and for the comment.

Hmm, not a bad parody Matt--I just had a little trouble following the rhyming (request and once replaces depressed and loneliness--similar thing in the next verse, they aren't perfect rhymes in TOS which is probably how you missed them. . .) Still an alright parody.
Matthias - January 12, 2011 - Report this comment
Depressed and Lonliness aren't rhymes at all... Say the two words out loud. They don't rhyme.

Matty--must you argue on every opinion. . .listen to it, the way they are pronounced are meant to be rhymes, as that stanza is rhymed later--its no different than Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (which ironically I wrecked really bad on) I am not saying it still doesn't work dude, I'm just pointing it out. Busta Rhymes uses a lot of non rhyming words to make rhymes--usually by adding an O--its all in how an artist chooses to pronounce things Okay and Lucky don't rhyme either, but I heard a song on the radio yesterday that pronounced lucky 'luckah' which makes it rhyme, even though on lyrics sheets it doesn't. . .Matty if you prefer I can just start commenting with a witty pun indicating I liked leaving no clue as to what I thought--since the slightest bit of commentary I make ends up forcing me to elaborate a novel to defend my position . . .I'm not trying to be funny, I'm being honest--I don't make song rhyme schemes for songs other than my own original, and I've been tripped up much worse by similar poor original rhymes in the past--(in the original the d of depressed is tapered off which creates a rhyming effect, they have rhymes of that style in every stanza built like the first one--sometimes rhyming perfectly, sometimes messing with the original pronunciation to make them rhyme)

(Artistry) Nice little satire on the impersonal nature of Facebook, nothing really gut-bustingly funny, but still pretty good. 555 friend requests for you!

Funny how much discussion about rhyme came in this particular parody, given that RHCP relies on the most trite rhymes in pop music, Imho. Anyhow, i Like this Social Network you illustrated here, my Friend.

(Artistry) HELLO? (hello-hello-hello) IS ANYBODY THERE? (there-there-there). That, my friends, is the lonely sound of the last person on MySpace. Everyone has moved on to Facebook and become Matthias' friend. Nice work, I wish you had more lyrics in the OS to work with.
