"Talking Sadaam"

The Lyrics

I know the song I'm parodying is itself a parody, but I just had to do it. It is, of course, about the capture of Sadaam Hussein. Even though I don't really like Bush, I threw his name into the song. So here we go!
Well Mr. Bush has done it
The Coalition won it
With Sadaam Hussein running all the while
C. Powell's tragic illness made them smile
While Sadaam escaped from his house that smelled like bile

We're talking Sadaam
From Baghdad to Al Basrah
Talking Sadaam
Generals and reporters
Dictator's grotesque beard on his jaw
Sadaam and his run-in with the law
We're talking Colin, Hickey and his gall

We're talking Sadaam
From Baghdad to Al Basrah
Talking Sadaam
Generals and reporters
Dictator's grotesque beard on his jaw
Sadaam and his run-in with the law
We're talking Colin, Hickey and his gall

This question to voters: what have you been smoking, and how much of it?

Ladies and gentlemen of this site, allow me to help you out by giving you the original lyrics for comparison purposes: Well Mr. Burns had done it/The Power Plant had won it/With Roger Clemens clucking all the while/Mike Scoscia's tragic illness made us smile/While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the bar room tile/(Chorus) We're talking softball/From Maine to San Diego/Talking softball/Mattingly and Canseco/Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw/Steve Sax and his run-in with the law/We're talking Homer, Ozzie and "The Straw" (Repeat Chorus). Go ahead and vote whatever you want as far as how funny it is goes, but at least consider the pacing a 4 or something.

Ok, a little constructive criticism: 1) "San Diego" and "Canseco" rhyme. Your corresponding "Al Basrah" and "reporters" do not. Not so good. 2) "Pacing" (at least IMO and I think several folks would agree) does not just refer to syllable count. There is also correct emphasis and general feel. Example: "Roger Clemens" and "Saddam Hussein" do not scan identically. (Roger Clemens is two trochees and Saddam Hussein is two iambs.) This can be distracting - especially when you add the tune. To us sticklers such things can be vote-killers on pacing. It was a good effort. Unfortunately, the idea had more merit than the execution in this case. I'll give you threes but it's the best I can do. Still, nice try and good idea. Better luck with the next one!

Actually, there were those small errors. Other than that, I think it was good. I just didn't think this deserved a 1, or a 2 (but nobody voted 2).

Well, considering that the original song was funny to begin with, trying to parody it was a little unnecessary.

The Simpsons' song is actually not the original. It's a parody on a much older song as the parodier pointed out. That song is Talkin' Baseball by Terry Cashman. It's a classic song and many baseball teams play it after the 8th inning. Not that any of this matters to begin with since the Simpsons' version is hilariousness defined.
