The Lyrics

Word has it that the band named itself after the movie. I'm a big fan of both.
Yes, it's just a film
And not the only film
With Sherlock Holmes, but it's a film
And he's not Holmes but thinks he is - this film is unique

Scott and Woodward playing Holmes and Dr. Watson
I've watched it many times
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks
Hard to put in one category
It tells a different kind of a story
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks

A brilliant judge on truth's side
Justin cracked when his wife died
Turned into the great detective - brother Blevins cheated and lied
He owed men with large firearms
Gangsters threatened bodily harm
All Blevins wanted was poor Justin in the funny farm
Then a psychiatrist
Was soon called on to assist - Mildred Watson

Scott and Woodward playing Holmes and Dr. Watson
I've watched it many times
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks
Hard to put in one category
It tells a different kind of a story
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks

Yes, it's just a film
And not the only film
With Sherlock Holmes, but it's a film
And he's not Holmes but thinks he is - this film is unique

Watson saw that Justin was just
Got involved and then gained his trust
She quit her job at the hospital and did what she must
Fought Moriarty, their foe
With their fellow loonies in tow
Saw that just 'cause someone's crazy doesn't mean insane, you know
End was ambiguous
Did they find happiness? We don't know.

Scott and Woodward playing Holmes and Dr. Watson
I've watched it many times
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks
Hard to put in one category
It tells a different kind of a story
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks

And while we're at it
Get the DVD with scenes not in the video

Hard to put in one category
It tells a different kind of a story
And I think "They Might be Giants" rocks

Though the story can be cartoony
It says it could be sane to be loony
One more reason that the movie rocks

Scott and Woodward playing Holmes and Dr. Watson
(as they look for clues)
They're quite the myst'ry pair
(30 years old but still current)
Go and check "They Might be Giants" out
(Check "They Might be Giants" out)

Hard to put in one category
It tells a different kind of a story
And "They Might be Giants" band rocks, too

DKTOS, but I'm impressed at the depth and detail of the writing here, Mari D - you paid a lot of attention to detail here.

YO PEOPLE come check this one out!

Well I used to love this band so much I watched the movie which I liked but that was a long time ago so you've convinced me I should go watch it again. You know, in my spare time.

Thanks Jack, Johnny & Claude! As I was writing this, I was thinking about listening to the band and watching the movie. Who remembers the supermarket scene toward the end of the film? There was some controversy about it. It was left off of the videotape but re-inserted into the DVD (yay!).

Elementary, Mari. If one looks at the evidence, one concludes that this is an excellent parody.
