I have written the song below as a Holiday Tribute to Rabbi Elazar Bogomilski who, after having seen numerous Decorated Holiday Trees (also called Christmas Trees) in the Seattle/King County Washington Airport (Sea-Tac Airport) threatened to sue the Seattle/King County Airport Authority before 10:00 a.m. Friday about three weeks before Christmas, 2006 if the Authority did not allow a Chanukah Menorah Display. As a result of the Rabbi's Complaint, on the fateful Friday the Authority removed about sixteen Decorated Holiday Trees in displays throughout the Seattle Airport. The Regretful Rabbi appeared on television. He explained that he did not intend to provoke the removal of Decorated Holiday Trees. However, surely he would have understood that opposition to Decorated Holiday Trees could have been inferred from his lawyer's threat to sue the Seattle Airport Authority. Decorated Holiday Trees, called Christmas Trees nowadays, originated long before Jesus' Birth. They were symbols used in conjunction with worship of the Greek god Adonia, worship of the Scandinavian god Thor, and in other pre-Christian pagan rituals See Jeremiah 10:1-4. The Airport Authority needn't have removed those trees in fear of the Rambunctious Rabbi. The Authority would have won the Rabbi's lawsuit. Displays of Decorated Holiday Trees by a Public (Governmental) Airport Authority do not constitute governmental establishment of religion in violation of the United States Constitution because Decorated Holiday Trees are no more associated with Christianity than any other religion See County of Allegheny et al. v. American Civil Liberties Union, Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, et al., 492 U.S. 573, 620; 109 S.Ct. 3086, 3115; 106 L.Ed.2d 472, 511; 1989 U.S. LEXIS 3468; 57 U.S.L.W. 5045 (1989). Creches or Nativity Scenes certainly are Christian and display of those by governmental authorities is establishment of religion if no other religious symbols are allowed Id. However, display of Decorated Holiday Trees violates no constitutional principles Id. Decorated Holiday Trees do not promote Christianity. Decorated Holiday Trees promote Martha Stewart.
