The Lyrics

Luke Skywalker, unaware of how dramatically his life is about to change, indulges in a rant against his uncle Owen.
I’m almost an adult. I’ve earned the right to whine.
Seems all I do is sit around and wait.
Just a little latitude would suit me fine;
He confines me to a place I hate.
Place I hate. Hope it’s not too late.

Gotta show the fellas I’m no shrinking violet.
Gotta get my license, be a fighter pilot.
Gonna leave this planet with its dreary gloom.
Lookin’ for space and freedom to zoom!
Gonna hang onto this new hope.
How can I ditch this cranky old dope?

Uncle Owen
Is a podunk and provincial pain.
I’ll go clean the droids,
But I’m annoyed
‘Cause I’ve got converters on the brain.

Uncle Owen!
He’s a grumpy, domineering guy,
And it’s hardly grand
To work his land
When my heart is set upon the sky.

Tatooine is nothing but bland,
Just a rock full of womp rats and sand.

So when I claim,
“Blech! I hate this farming game,”
I’m also saying,
“You cramp my style, Uncle Owen.
Uncle Owen, you’re lame!”

Uncle Owen!
Can’t believe he ever was a teen. (Uncle Owen!)
Now he always bores
And doles out chores
‘Cause he’s dull and dusty, and he’s mean!

Uncle Owen
Only thinks of mouths he has to feed,
And unlike Aunt Beru,
He has no clue
That adventure’s what I really need.

This isn’t the life I have planned.
Oh, no! Any day now, I’m taking a stand.
Gotta fly, gotta fly, gotta fly,
Gotta fly, gotta fly, gotta fly...

So when I claim,
“Blech! I hate this farming game,”
I’m also saying,
“You cramp my style, Uncle Owen.
Uncle Owen, you are lame!”

Uncle Owen, Uncle Owen, Uncle Owen, Uncle Owen...

Tatooine is nothing but bland,
Just a rock full of womp rats and sand.

And when I claim,
“Blech! I hate this farming game,”
I’m also saying,
“You cramp my style, Uncle Owen.
Uncle Owen,
You’re lame! I’m ticked, and you’re to blame!”
Uncle Owen!
Blech!

Star Wars (THE Star Wars...forget that Episode 4 stuff) is my favorite movie of all time...and this parody is more than worthy! As Own said, "That wizard's just a crazy old man", but you are the embodiment of The Farce. ;D

Many thanks, Old Man - a compliment indeed! It really is a great movie, isn't it? And funny to realize that not all that long before he was a great hero, Luke was just a typical whiny teenager...

I heard Uncle Owen say, angrily, "To the TWO moons, Luke!!!" LOL

Excellent wording, rhyming, phrasing, and pacing to this classic B.W. hit...never got into the Star Wars thingy much...but enjoyed reading your rewrite

Ha! Yes, Mark, I could hear him saying that... 8-) Thanks very much, AFW! Glad you liked it!

YAY! You finally hit an OS I can relate to, and though not a SW fan, know enough to enjoy this. What AFW said. 555

Amen! I love it, love it, LOVE IT! So true, true, TRUE-TO-LIFE. Great theme, great subject, great pace, meter, rhythmn, all. Over 10 years ago I met Phil Brown (he played Uncle Owen) at a sci-fi convention in a bookstore. He starred in many other movies but went into exile during the McCarthy witch hunt era. Cool dude. Great parody from you. Seeing SW in a cinema was my very first date. Oh the fun!

A Mind - Thank you very much! :) That's really cool that you met "Uncle Owen" - and I'd never heard that about him getting blacklisted. Very interesting! And seeing Star Wars in the theater sounds like a pretty awesome date!

When talking about minor characters in the Star Wars movies my mind goes to that green chick with the crazy hair rather than Uncle Owen. This has got to be one of the oddest Star Wars parodies out there but also a really good one.

Was she in Jabba's palace? I think I remember her but I'm not sure... Glad you like the parody! :)

SOTM: Sadly, this combined two of my least favorite things, musicals (Oklahoma in particular) and Star Wars. Nice job lyrically, but I just can't vote for this one, I'm sorry :(

Hey, to each his own! Thanks for the kudos on the lyrics! :)

SOTM-JUL-10

What I want to know is why doesn't Uncle Owen in Star Wars Episode IV remember C3PO when his father owned him in Star Wars Episode II? Must have been the new gold plating that C3PO got between the two episodes. Anyway this is a great parody and done to an OS I know well. All pluses.
Bilbopooh - August 13, 2010 - Report this comment
Thanks, Guy! :D Hmmm, good question about C3PO. Maybe Owen blocked that out...

Speaking of inconsistencies in SW what I'd like to know is why it took the Jedi Council or Anakin himself more than ten years to come up with the idea to go back to Tattoine for his enslaved mom, it wasn't much of a trip and surely they could have brought enough money to buy her freedom the second time around...
Bilbopooh - August 15, 2010 - Report this comment
I know! They should have made that a top priority. I suppose they were trying to make Anakin forget all his attachments...

Interesting choice of parody. . .I can't say I LOL'd, but it was very interesting as a write.
Bilbopooh - August 16, 2010 - Report this comment
Thanks, Mark and Dave! With most of the stuff I write, I'm kinda more focused on exploring the character than being funny, though I do try to incorporate humor where I can. Luke's whining at the beginning of Star Wars always amused me; I'd say he definitely did some maturing!

(SOTM July 2010) Very good... I always liked how Luke Skywalker whined and complained about Uncle Owen. As a Star Wars fan, I enjoyed this parody greatly. 5s. (I'm so big of a Star Wars fan, that I washed out and kept my Taco Bell and KFC cups and PepsiCo soda cans from 1999 that promoted "The Phantom Menace")
Bilbopooh - August 17, 2010 - Report this comment
Thanks, Andria! Glad you liked it! :) I've still got my jumbo R2-D2 cup from Phantom Menace days... 8-)

(SOTM) Still haven't seen the original Star Wars films all the way through, but I've absorbed enough pop culture to understand the gags in this one. Would fit perfectly in a Star Wars musical, methinks. 555

Thanks! Ah, a Star Wars musical... There's a lovely thought! :D

I think AFW hit the nail on the head with my thoughts. Well done indeed, but not familiar enough with SW to get all of the references.
