The Lyrics

Felix Wankel is probably best know for his postwar Wankel rotary engine of the 50s and 60s fitted to cars and motorcycles. But during WW2, Wankel worked on a series of high speed Gleiterbooten that used riser plate skids to act like mini hydrofoils. The attack craft would have a speed between 43-50 knots and be piloted by 1 man who could launch a single torpedo or use a 37mm deck gun to kill targets. One prototype made it to testing on the Bodensee in 1945. Wankel also worked on an exhaust gas torpedo also in prototype form. His Zilsch (Sizzling) 42 boat inspired new attempts with the Sizzling 68 and 74 boats that were somewhat futuristic for the time. See pics below at those sites.
Boat with 4 plate skids
on the Bodensee,
Was it the Wankel?
His '42 Sizzling!

Dynamic lift made
Knots? Well, 43,
Was it the Wankel?
His '42 Sizzling!

For the Kriegsmarine
heavy armed with speed,
Was it the Wankel?
His '42 Sizzling!

Boat was captured... didn't succeed

Note: Boat was actually Zisch, not Zilsch. A typo. Wankel's postwar boats were the 1968 and 1974 models.

Thanks Jon. As a kid in the 70s I was fascinated by the Wankel engine and had a working open view plastic model. My brother had the visible V-8 model.
