The Lyrics

Somewhere in Eastern Africa, in Uganda
lived a man who had a certain agenda
He was a tinpot tyrant of the lowest kind
a dictator and a sadist you can no more find
although he's gone for good for almost forty years
we can still remember him with certain fear

Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Idi is best!

At first did everybody think he's just okay
He promised lots of milk and honey every day
Until he started kiliing people of his own
and claimed he's pretender of the Scoctish crown
He preyed on the sex with little girls and boys
and had a lot of other kind of perverse joys

Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Idi is best!

Idi's stuff for headers in the yellow press
a leopard cap and gun and military dress
Yet his legacy's not nice, it was a kind of bliss
when he was diagnosed to have the syphilis
But people still remember him in Uganda
and he has become a certain kind of legend-a

Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Go - go Idi Amin go!
Idi is best!

I can recall a parody about Idi Amin on a nationally syndicated music comedy show. At one point Idi pulls his gun and shoots one of his fellow singers, then announces "Three people plenty enough for a quartet, anyhow". A friend of mine recorded an Idi Amin "tribute". He still remains a fascinating figure long after his overdue demise. Khadaffi and Saddam Hussein also were the subjects of satire. Somehow, Hafaz el Assad just doesn't seem to convey the same mystique, though he does bear a certain resemblance to the character of Al Bundy on the US TV comedy "Married With Children". Have you seen it in Finland?

Yes. This show is run every now and then as re-runs both on national and commercial channels, and I love it.

Idi Amin was a jerk4ss of the "A" class, and while he was little different from other Third World tinpot dictators, he set a hallmark for depravity, insanity and stupidity. He was, of course, diagnosed with tertiary syphilis, which explains a lot of his antics.
