The Lyrics

This one is for the Brits. If you're from the other side of the pond, Gordon Brown, our unloved Prime Minister, has just been fingered for allowing a sleazy member of his staff at 10 Downing Street to send libellous e-mails about opposition Conservative Party leaders David Cameron and George Osbourne. (Sir Fred Goodwin was the unlamented boss of Royal Bank of Scotland.)
There's a house in Downing Street,
It's run by a Scot.
He’s a grouch from head to feet,
His brain is full of rot!
When you ask him anything he never answers "no".
He just "yeses” you to death, and as he takes your dough
He tells you:
"Yes, we have no Obamas
We have no Obamas today.
We've slumps and recessions
And house repossessions
And gloom in a ten-pint spray.
We have a huge plan of taxation
To bleed dry the nation,
But yes - we have no Obamas,
We have no Obamas today."

As his ratings sank and sank
Mr Brown got cross:
"Sack Fred Goodwin from the bank,
Then they’ll know who’s boss!"
When this didn’t do the trick, he was mad as hell.
“Slander David Cameron and George Osbourne as well!”
He grumbled:
"Yes, we have no Obamas
We have no Obamas today.
We’ve cronies and shysters,
Malicious spinmeisters,
Whose talents are on display.
And so we’ll lie, cheat and deceive you;
We’ll never reprieve you:
But yes – we have no Obamas
We have no Obamas today."

That 10-pint sprary gloom is definitely contagious. Excellent title and excellent all the way through.

"Libelous e-mails" is a *scandal*? Have you *seen* the blotch of never-ending political scandals we have here? No *wonder* the stereotype of the Brits as wimps! ....kidding!!!! Very good one, and, uh, I thought GB got in because Tony Blair was unloved, but what would I know about politics across the pond? 555

btw, feel free to make equally critical, rude, or nit-picking comments at any of my songs any time the urge strikes -- I'd consider it an honor. :)

Super stuff... say, are you the John Boothman who's political editor of BBC Scotland? 'Cause it's wonderful satire :-)

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. In response to Phil Alexander, no I'm not political editor of anything, if I was I might be out of a job! (BTW "Osbourne" should be "Osborne". Sorry George.)
