Original Song Title:

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Ella Fitzgerald

Parody Song Title:

"The Geezer is a Scamp"

Parody Written by:

Al Silver

The Lyrics

Won’t wear a diaper to stifle a leak
I move my bowels at least once a week
Still get it up like I did at my peak
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

Best of pop singers is Miss Patti Page
Cole Porter’s songs are, of course, all the rage
Love Betty White ‘cause she’s half of my age
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

I like orthotics snug in my shoes
Life with no blues
Joints ache, that’s jake
I soak my teeth in a glass near the lamp
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

Don’t like rap music, it’s high-minded pap
But Rudy Vallee is my kind of chap
I like old ladies who work on my lap
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

I like the flickers, the actors don’t talk
I get a kick from my twenty-foot walk
After reclining, my outline’s in chalk
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

I like to wear pants up to my neck
Call me a wreck, heart’s good, knock wood
I’m tickled pink that Joe Louis is champ
That’s why the geezer is a scamp

Don't know who you've annoyed to get voting 1s on this.. I enjoyed it, and at times it feels like I'm getting to that kind of age myself :)

Gives me something to look forward too. Hope I can still get around at that stage. Right now I'm just getting round.

Phil: So far, I've gotten 4 sets of all 1s. I take that as a calculated insult by a cabal of cowards. I have no idea why I am the target of these juvenile delinquents. I give a great deal of time, care, and effort to my parodies. As with even the better writers, the results are mixed. But I would never submit clearly inferior work. I'm glad you enjoyed the parody.
Patrick: Thanks for the comment. I wish you a 32" waistline.

People voting 1s is very rarely a comment on the quality of a parody - I'd go so far as to say "hardly ever". If there's even a semblance of a rhyme, then a vote of 1s is a statement.. I take it as a kind of compliment, it means I've got under somebody's skin at some point, not necessarily to do with the parody that's just been voted on. And that's a good thing: I'd far rather be winding someone up so much that they feel they have to make that kind of statement than be writing such inconsequential inoffensive bland stuff that it stirs nobody.

Al - Well, I liked it. Why? It all "depends". ;D

Well crafted as usual, Al, with a good helping of humor: TMGLTM. But as you know your OS choice and theme somewhat limits your audience to us old-timers. It's a niche shared by others, and these songs are timeless apart from the nostalgia value.

As for the 111s, congratulations and join the club. How sad that there's an element in this community intent on a war of attrition. I'm amazed that a regular contributor could stoop so low, one who divides everyone else into friends and enemies in true Nazi style. His reasoning seems to be 'Well, you do it to me!', but I for one know my conscience is clear.

LL: I had to Google TMGLTM, just in case it had something to do with my mother. I had nothing to fear; it's the acronym for Too Many Good Lines To Mention. Thanx.

I'm comfortable with my occasional appearances in the geezer niche. In the immortal words of Lina Lamont, the voice-challenged silent screen star in Singin' in the Rain, "If we bring a little joy into your humdrum lives, it makes us feel as though our hard work ain't been in vain for nothin'."

Al; We seem to have converged in creating codger-personae on the same AIR posting-day. I think I like your old geezer better than mine, although I am too too young to get some of his references. Although more subtle in your account, loss of mobility is a terrible affliction of the aged population. Condolences on the attack-ratings you somehow incited. Perhaps our old friend Harry has something to contribute re this deplorable attack on the defenseless elderly. Superb quote from Lina Lamont.

Hi! Just looking over your old stuff a bit -- really like this one! And people just don't use "jake" as an adjective anymore; that's so melvin. Anyway, ulterior motive of pointing out that this week's One Week Notice challenge is a Sinatra song; if you're interested there's a link on the AmiRight front page. Although I really should've done this sooner, there's only a couple days left to submit. Either way, great stuff and don't be a stranger.
