The Lyrics

Happy 5th of July, everyone. What, you've never heard of that holiday? That's the annual event when you watch the news all day to hear about all the funny injuries that occured during Independence Day because of careless fireworking. Based on an actual event, which I'm not going to share unless someone asks - my parody is already dangerously twisted.
Grandma got blown over, she's in pain, dear!
Walking out on Independence Eve
You can say that fireworks function safely
But as for me? I'd have to disagree.

We'd been drinking, eating hot dogs
And the night sky was aglow
So I took out Daddy's rockets
And I stumbled out the door to start the show

Mommy said I shouldn't light it
It was toppled on its side
Guess I figured Gram would see it
But she didn't...'till it shot into her eye

Grandma got blown over, she's in pain, dear!
Hit by someone's fireworks in the road
Pepto-Bismol's better than Mylanta
And faces sure look cool when they explode!

When it happened, it was crazy
Her bifocals bust in two
See her face start shooting sparklers
And her white hair matched the flaming red and blue

Grandpa says he doesn't blame me
He's relieved for Gram instead
Though he tells me, quite discreetly
"Next time, aim it for her neck and not her head"

Grandma got blown over - how insane, dear!
She'll sure have some fun on Halloween
Knocking on her door, we'll ask for candy
'Cause she don't need a mask to look obscene!

Soon it became a tradition
Ev'ry Independence Day
To shoot shells and bombs and rockets
Straight, directly into poor Grandmother's way

Now our Gram is up in heaven
Sitting on the highest shelf
Grandma, lest we all forget you
In rememb'rance, we'll shoot fireworks at ourselves!

Grandma got blown over, lost her brain, dear
Walked into a rocket in her path
You can pray and moan and scream and tanty
But as for me and Grandpa...we'll just laugh.

It's always on this day that I thank God that I can still count to ten on my fingers.555

I'm not kidding, Emi, I carefully double-checked that my vote of 5-5-5 registered here, because this parody of yours deserves it.

Oh. I just thought that, since you made it a POINT to tell me it registered, you were hinting at sarcasm. All right, John Barry. 'Fess up.

I have several witnesses who've just seen me vote fives, they're signing the statement now, we'll have it notarized and overnighted immediately I SWEAR IT'S TRUE. Also, I'm going to buy another computer right now so I can vote on it again, honest. All right, I'm just being stupid now. Very good song.

Thanks, Frankie, Claude Prez, lebeiw15 and TJC (who didn't force me into a dictionary excursion for once). ;-) Your thoughts are appreciated, except for the perverse ones that you rarely share anyway.

I haven't been visiting your latest songs because I DK any of them, but as you were loyal enough (good girl!) to visit mine anyway I return the favour now... and how worthwhile it was! This one had me cacking aloud for nanoseconds! Any violence towards the elderly is, evidently, highly comic and the word 'bifocals' earns you 5s alone! I laugh backwards! !!!!ah ah ah ah ahoohooM

I'm late for this one, Emi...didn't work yesterday...(and we all know that I'm not going to be wasting time online unless I'm getting paid for it!...heheheh)...but great job! 5s!

I got a bang out of this, Emi! 5s.

Great job in takiing an old saw and making it all your own! Kinda forced the mylanta/pepto bismol idea, but I liked the rhyming against the original. 555

G-Thanks to Inottarb Ekul (ah ah), Arwen, Rod Worden and Agrimorfee, who is absolutely right - "Mylanta" was a laziness on my part. But it's true, if that counts for anything - Pepto-Bismol IS better than Mylanta. :-)

I haven't read too much of your stuff yet, but this was a pretty funny song! I loved the title!
