The Lyrics

Written by the great swing-band leader Tommy Dorsey for Mahalia Jackson in the 1930s, this remains one of Elvis's best regarded spiritual songs, even becoming the title of an album of inspirational songs in the late 50s. Presley's deep religious convictions are well documented, but he was no rocket scientist, so hopefully this parody will restore a balanced perspective.
THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY

Well I'm inspired by a theory
And it won't take very long
And if I'm wrong they can put, put me away, oh yeah
If you square the speed of light
Calculate mass, and (hang on tight)
Multiply both, and the product is energy, oh yes

It's the theory of relativity, they say
This equation helps physicists see the way, day after day
It will not change, change tomorrow
No refutation I see
Yes it's the theory of relativity for me, for you and me

Well they thought Einstein was mental
Stephen Hawking just the same
But the proof of the pudding is there in the math, oh yeah
And what's more, it's now perceived
If light speed could be achieved
Time would be changed, changed from its projected path, oh yes

(So E equals M times C squared, that's how they're paired
E equals M times C squared, oh don't be scared
There'll be no preacher, no pastor, no pope that teaches me
It's the theory of relativity for me, so let it be

DKTOS, and not really sure that the forumula for conversion of matter to energy, as in nuclear fission, plus the slowing of time near C, covers much of the whole Theory of Relativity, but then, it's a topic as big as the Universe. (So many aspects, you can hardly quantum. ;) Abstaining, but it was a good idea. Keep it up.

(Q.: Did Elvis play this on a GUT String (theory) guitar?)

For a rather extensive look at the entire life of the Universe, from the Big Bang (not the TV series! ;) onward, see Fiddlegirll's

It seems as though you have the mind and education to appreciate it. Cheers.

I'm not crazy about math, but I like math parodies! (it's all relative).

Interesting feedback, thanks you guys. To tell the truth, I'm no rocket scientist either, in fact I'm not even a scientist, so my description of the math may be a bit dodgy. If you listen to the OS the striking thing about this song is its emotional intensity and its piety, and it's that which I'm satirizing here, from a vaguely atheistic point of view. I also found it a good lyrical challenge to insert a physics equation in to a spiritual song. Oh and thanks for the corny puns, and the link.

Most creative idea...extra syllables, but I guess the way this song goes, and the way Elvis sang it, with all his vibrato..it could still fit...I'm more into "Stein" than "Ein"..so, I'll have to take your word for the validity of those theories
