The Lyrics
After WW2, both the US and UK derived missiles off of the German Rheintochter R-series SAM that led to the Nike and Ajax in the US and the Bloodhound Mk.I in Britain. The Mk.I became operational from 1958 but was refined into the Mk.II by 1964 and remained in service until 1991 in the UK. Bloodhound Mk.II used 2x Bristol Thor ramjets augmented by 4x Gosling solid rocket booster to speed the missile to Mach 2.7 within 3 seconds of launch. It used a CWR (Continuous Wave Radar) mated to a digital fire control computer and could hit a Red bomber flying Mach 2 over 50,000 ft!!! It was launched from a fixed launcher but with airlift capabilities could be moved to hot spots quickly. It was deployed to provide defense for V-Bomber bases and was used by 4 other nations: Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, and some use in W. Germany until replaced by the Rapier. 783 were built. A Mk.III was to be nuclear with a Neutron Bomb spin-off. Mk.IV would have had fully mobile launchers. The warhead of the Bloodhound was unique for the time with an exploding HE ring-rod system so accuracy did not have to be precise- it would have scored anyway!!!

Thanks Jon, I may do a parody about the BAC TRS-2 someday soon or a dedication to the Hawker Hunter...
Slight error with comment above. The first aircraft should be the BAC TSR-2 (T remains Tactical, although the roles of Strike and Recon could be reversed)... and in Brit tradition of designations, it really should be BAC TSR.2. Depends on which side of the pond one is on. The BAC TSR.2 was a tactical strike a/c with alt. role as potential recon bird. It was the Brit predecessor of the US F-111 and Soviet Su-24 which were true, dedicated tactical strike aircraft sometimes compared with full bombers which is inaccurate for their duties and design specifications.
