The Lyrics

When the Allies went to take Naples and Foggia Airfield there was fierce fighting in the city as well as the Allies bombing campaign. Kesselring ordered that churches and monasteries be spared but everything else was to be destroyed in an orderly withdrawl. The German Army and SS demolished everything in thier path. The electrical grid, all water sources, all rail transport lines, all communications centers, and the city itself was torched. SS crews lined up civilians and killed them as well as former Axis Italian soldiers, showing no mercy. German guns pounded every target they could so that when the Allies arrived Naples was in ruin. And it was. Although the harbor was opened within 1 week and 7000 tons of supplies poured in per day, it took many months of rebuilding to get back to some semblence of normalcy. The Allies had to feed 800,000 people and took 12,500 casualties in the fighting (more for complete Operation Avalanche). The Germans withdrew north and continued to fight with rebel Italian land and air forces.
(In Naples there was fighting
When Germans heard of Armistice they felt betrayed)

When your communications have died and the radios are fried
That's the Nazis
When your vehicles are mined and are blown off the line
That's the Nazis
Bells will ring, guns still firing, with more shells incoming
But few will sing "Liberation!"
Naples will pay, German troops delay, SS killers slay
In withdrawal operations

When the water once was cool is now a poisoned pool
That's the Nazis
When they blow up the street, demolition complete
You're not so smug
When you hear children scream and the MGs are cycling
Do believe
Naples and Italy, report back to your King:
That's the Nazis

When the grid is fried and your electricity dies
That's the Nazis
When your bridges are down and the Hotel is not found
That's the Nazis
Bells will ring, guns still firing, Allied bombs still dropping
But few will sing “Liberation!”
Naples will pay, German troops delay, SS killers slay
In withdrawal operations
Death inflation… desecration

When your tracks are ripped-up and the White Flag is up
That's the Nazis
When you can’t find your street and blood pools at your feet
It is done
When everything’s burning and your soldiers are surrendering
Do believe
Naples and Italy, report back to your King:
That's the Nazis (Nazis)
Northward hurry...

Little attention paid to pacing here. Vote withheld. Good title, good topic, heavy handed treatment. Potential for humor, like "See Naples and die."

What Pacing Police said. Also why not include a Neapolitan element or two for blending and contrast?

Wasn't "Orderly withdrawl" a maneuver practiced most extensively by retreating Confederate forces during the Civil War?
