Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Heaven . . . going to Heaven.
With my heart beating slower, while my pulse grows weak.
It's the price I'll pay if our two cars should meet.
When I'm on the highway, driving in my sleep.

Heaven . . . Am I pretendin',
There are cars swerving around me as I weave?
In between my snoring I can hear them beep,
When I'm on the highway, driving in my sleep.

Oh! - I could drive off a mountain,
Flying off the highest peak.
If it doesn't kill me, I'll be jailed,
For driving in my sleep.

Though I dream I'm going fishing,
You might say, I'm up a creek.
Did you know my car does ninety? Well . . .
I'm in it, fast asleep.

Maple tree - I'll wrap my car around you.
The glass I'll crash through,
As away I fly to Heaven.

Life's not endin'.
I'm not in Heaven.
But my car's out of gas - and I'm white as a sheet.
I believe I've learned a lesson that's for keeps.
No more driving down the highway in my sleep.

Glad you enjoyed it, Wildman. I've checked out some of the parodies you & Diva have done. Ditto.

I looked at your website, too, David - very cool, smooth animation, very pleasant.

This parody caught my attention - I happen to have obstructive sleep apnea ( OSA ), which, thank goodness, has been successfully treated for the past four years by CPAP ( continuous positive airway pressure ). Before I saw a sleep specialist and got my diagnosis and treatment, I had some close calls on the highway. Your parody is not only a clever work of lyrical composition, but it also serves to raise public awareness of the danger of driving while sleepy. Well done - and thank you.

Now we gotta start doing public service parodies? What, we gotta have redeeming qualities? Okay. Only if it's funny like this one.

Thanks for the comment, Johnny. I wasn't going to mention it, 'cause I saw no reason to, but I'm scheduled to consult a specialist next month. Apparently a lot of people suffer from various degrees of sleep apnea.

Good luck, David. Sleep apnea is widely underdiagnosed in this country, and a lot of folks could benefit from treatment. I remember waking up in the sleep lab after my overnight sleep study, when they tried CPAP on me for the first time while they monitored my breathing, brainwaves, and a bunch of other bio-markers. When I awoke and they took off the CPAP mask, I felt euphoric and clear-headed and almost blissful - it had been the BEST sleep I'd had for a long, long, long time! It's the memory of how fantastically wonderful I felt that morning in the sleep lab that enables me to continue to use my CPAP with ease and comfort. I wish the same for you!
