Song Parodies -> "Obamacare"

Original Song Title:

"O Tannenbaum"

Original Performer:

German Traditional Song

Parody Song Title:

"Obamacare"

Parody Written by:

Patrick McWilliams

The Lyrics

An ancient German melody, often used as a Christmas song, and as the base line for some State and college anthems. The number of verses seems to be flexible, so I just kept writing till I ran out of ideas. Though I don't usually let that stop me.
Obamacare, Obamacare
Pretends he's truly caring
Obamacare, Obamacare
At meltdown we are staring
Can't pay the bills, can't pay the rent
And yet he takes, without consent
Obamcare, Obamacare
Only his cronies sparing

Obamacare, Obamacare
The hypocrites regaling
Obamacare, Obamacare
Computer log-ins failing
If benefits were truly best
He'd sign up too, with all the rest
Obamacare, Obamacare
Our liberties assailing

Obamacare, Obamacare
Oh, how the liberals praise ya'
Obmacare, Obamacare
How can I best appraise ya'
Will seniors old, and grey, and bent
Be "Soylent Green" ingredient?
Obamacare, Obamacare
Next step to euthenasia

Obamacare, Obamacare
Our warning did not heed it
Obamacare, Obamacare
We do not want or need it
Two thousand pages warped the shelves
The bureaucrats exempt themselves
Obamacare, Obamacare
Just pass it first then read it

Just got a notice from my insurance company that next year I (60-year old male) will be getting maternity care and pediatric dental care. Wonder how much more that is going to cost. Good thing Obamacare covers mental health, because this whole boondoggle is driving me insane.

If you can't spell "euthanasia," how can we take all the rest seriously?

Let's face it. "Obamascare" was the worst approved draft of healthcare overhaul that passed just go get something passed. And it is deeply flawed and unconstitutional no matter what CJ Roberts voted as a "tax." If the government can mandate health insurance it can mandate flood insurance for those living in flood plains and leaves the door wide-open to start mandating all sorts of things people don't want. As for the millions uncovered, they need healthcare, OK, but a better plan than this. Doctors already cannot handle the burdens of this healthcare crisis in America and adding millions will only make things harder along with the status of the illegal immigrants' healthcare rights for being here. Study projections from a multitude of institutes claim that Obamacare in the end will raise the national debt considerably and will not be effective in many cases. No wonder why a large percentage of Americans don't like it nor want it. Well done Patrick-5s

@Spellcheck: Someone as sharp-eyed as you should have read through the 2700-page bill before Nancy Pelosi "deemed it [the Senate's substitute language] to have passed the House" without an actual vote. Only now do Americans "find out what is in it" and reject it overwhelmingly.
@Patrick: Good work and choice of OS; Obamacare is like a Christmas (oops, holiday) tree with attractive-looking goodies that when opened taste like lemons. 5s

Well done, Patrick-555! If Obamacare was a blockbudget film, it would be a box office disaster like "The Lone Ranger!!!" No one I know who has gone to www.healthcare.gov has been able to see the plans nor sign-up... and that's just the site glitches! Imagine the real-life problems and loopholes since it was so badly written. I find it appalling that Obama will not negotiate on any part of the ACA which is his job (nothing between the Executive and Legislative Branches is truly non-negotiable) and that he is capitalizing on the REPs vilification for wanting to put an end to Big Govt. growth and capping the debt ceiling. They may be obstructionist but he is equally unmoving and irresponsible as CIC and the POTUS. How can he make a deal on Syrian WMDs with the UN and Putin while not even talking to the House REPs concerning this domestic fiscal crisis about to turn historic national disaster??? WTF??? Just proves he is a weak national and party leader just as Boehner has become a weak REP leader being undermined by a few dozen TP fanatics!

If Obama thinks he can change the workings of human nature, then I can change the rules of speling. Let's start playing by Chicago rules. If you manage to get through to 1-800-F1UCKYO, which I understand is the official number for the Obamasnare exchange, start loading the site with dead people. Register Obama himself. Why wasn't he the first to sign up, if this is such a great idea. I don't want to see his name on the program, I want to see his name on the registration card. How can congress "deem" something passed without a recorded vote of yeas and nays by the representatives? What did Obama have on Roberts to extort his vote? At least with the "Lone Ranger", those of us who didn't see it, didn't have to buy a ticket just because it existed. The people who actually wrote this monstrosity, and it couldn't have been any of the elected dolts, because none of them are bright enough or patient enough to churn out 2700 pages, don't know or don't care to know the concept of insurance. Nor do they seem to understand the difference between health care and health insurance. A CEO with a gold-plated insurance plan crosses the street. A homeless man without a cent to his name crosses from the other side. As they meet in the middle, a car hits them both. The ambulance will take both to the hospital. They will both get the same degree of care. The rich man's insurance will pay his bill. The state or a charity, or some federal agency will pay for the treatment of the poor man. The costs will be passed along over the folks who can pay. Giving the homeless man an "insurance" policy just means higher rates for those who have insurance, making it less "affordable". There will likely be some sort of "trust" fund, which we can trust the feds to raid to pay for another war or some similar boondoggle. By the way, Injustice Roberts, a government exaction derived from a violation of a law or rule is a "fine" or a "penalty". A payment to the government for earning an income or purchasing a product is a "tax". On an unrelated note, the so-called federal NFA tax on certain firearms is a "license fee". Glad you all liked the parody. Sorry about Youth In Asia. I had to sell my dictionary to buy gas for my car.

Just as the GOP has been hijacked by Tea Party Wackos, amiright has been hijacked by Trogs.
Callmelennie - October 08, 2013 - Report this comment
Define the word "Trog" Tu Bahd. Does that mean a significant majority of the American people? Because at the moment, a huge majority of American people are having their eyes opened about the utter fraud that is Obamacare. So they woud agree completely with Patrick's sentiments. So the old intimidation and marginalization via name-calling gambit ain't gonna work this time

Outstanding spoof, Patrick, particularly the last verse. Some people say that laughter is the best medicine, and, under Obamacare, that will likely be more true than ever. Unfortunately, the joke is on us.
Giorgio Coniglio - October 09, 2013 - Report this comment
Very clever, and therefore 5ed. Agree that laughter is by far the best medicine. Pegged recently as a red-maple-leaf-clad hippy-alien, admittedly not up on your local politics, I have to say this as a retired health-care worker. The rest of the developed world has universal health-care, chlorinated running water, and infant vaccination programs. Might be painful, but it's time you guys down there undertook this.

It isn’t simply Obamacare that angers you Republicans and some Democrats. In a recent column for Bloomberg View, Frank Wilkinson put together a concise explanation:
A lot of Americans were not ready for a mixed-race president. They weren’t ready for gay marriage. They weren’t ready for the wave of legal and illegal immigration that redefined American demographics over the past two or three decades, bringing in lots of nonwhites. They weren’t ready — who was? — for the brutal effects of globalization on working- and middle-class Americans or the devastating fallout from the financial crisis. Their representatives didn’t stop Obamacare. And their side didn’t “take back America” in 2012 as Fox News and conservative radio personalities led them to believe they would. They feel the culture is running away from them (and they’re mostly right).

In focus groups of all factions of Republican voters by the Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg, “few explicitly talk about Obama in racial terms,” but the base supporters are very conscious of being white in a country with growing minorities. Their party is losing to a Democratic Party of big government whose goal is to expand programs that mainly benefit minorities. Race remains very much alive in the politics of the Republican Party. Republicans see a president who has fooled and manipulated the public, lied, and gotten his secret socialist-Marxist agenda done. The Republican base electorate thinks they face a victorious Democratic Party that is intent on expanding government to increase dependency and therefore electoral support. It starts with food stamps and unemployment benefits; expands further if you legalize the illegals; but insuring the uninsured dramatically grows those dependent on government.

Oh, for the time when being white was the norm and an advantage. What nostalgic Republicans should do is to populate the Eisenhower-era theme park known as Branson, Mo. Otherwise, in the immortal words of Tony Scalia, “Get over it.”

I am indebted to Tom Edsall.

In the coming debacle, the productive, working class, fiscally responsible minority of all races will have the advantage in firepower and determination. To destroy the working class, the dependent class would be committing suicide. The Chinese will not go on funding the medical care of half the population of Mexico, now residing under the benevolence of the Great Obama. I am a conservative white dude. So are most of my friends. Not one of us gives a damn about Barack Obama's skin color. We do indeed judge him by the "content of his character", and the measure is lacking. By the way, if the white, conservative minority doesn't have to fight. Should they just "get over it", meaning surrender, and jump on the gravy train, the whole system will collapse for lack of funding. Read "Atlas Shrugged". This was all foreseen decades ago.

Anytime someone pulls the race card when I criticize Obama I just say, "I'm not racist; it's the white half of Obama's family background that I truly despise
Al Silver - October 12, 2013 - Report this comment
Lennie: The tendency of white Republicans to see themselves as besieged by a growing population of people of color is not a pulling of the race card by me. I was excerpting from an ongoing study called “The Republican Party Project” conducted by the nonprofit organization Democracy Corps. under the direction of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner pollster group. We have a perfect example of their findings in the self-identification of a member of this site as a "white conservative."

I did a verse to this song. Before I found your song. Obama Care. Obama Care. It's no good for anyone. Obama Care. Obama Care. It's gonna kill us all off soon. The crappy care. The death panels. Like Great Britain or Canada. Obama Care. Obama Care. It's no good for anyone.
