The Lyrics

So now I bastardized one of the greatest arias in the world of Classical Opera. God have mercy on my soul. :) Here is an URL to the libretto and MIDI--I didn't include the repeating lines or the "lalalas" throughout. http://www.impresario.ch/sounds/rosbar1B.htmI hope you can figure out what the singer here is bitching about. Enjoy!
There goes Al, that old bum
In the city
With Carmen Electra
Vanessa Alba, and Sofia
He has joie de vivre
He's got the fever!
He's a charlatan
Of quality!

Ah, blotto gigolo
Mucho machismo?
Fortunate sissy-ho!
I must say "HA!"

Brain's out near Pluto
Your life is a sideshow
Die in an inferno!
Ignorant slut

Eat your lasagna
With Jim and Barbara
You think you are so cool
Well, you are not

I'm sorry to sound petty
But your brainpan is squeaky
Ah but you are The Man, so
Maybe I'll stop...
But a face like a horse's
It's such a mystery...
How you got ahead, ah...
So cavalier...

He has the joie de vivre
He's got the fever
He's a charlatan
Of quality!

You're ugly as Bono
Voice like Yoko Ono
Love the paparazzi
You are so silly
Spoiled like Veruca
(Rich girl who met Wonka)
Hang out with Christina
(She's easy to bed, so...)

Gigolo! Gigolo!...
Amen, hallejuah
You're lame, I say "screw ya!"...
You are a dolt, yeah, you are a dolt, yeah...
Like Carrot Top!

Hey, Gigolo! What's up!...
Gigolo here, Gigolo there
Gigolo schmooze, Gigolo schmooze...
Blotto, a sissy ho
You are so old and gray
You are the fat old bum
In this city

Ah, blotto Gigolo
Not an ounce of machismo
And all of your fortunes are just charisma!

Agri, I tried to get to the MIDI website you listed, but I get "HTTP Error 404 File Not Found".

This works...I spaced my last sentence incorrectly, is what happened. http://www.impresario.ch/sounds/rosbar1B.htm

Congrats, Agrimorfee - not an easy one to master.

SOTM Must have been a hard one to do.

SOTM - Sorry, I failed to figure out what the singer was 'bitching' about or who Al is for that matter. Could you elaborate on what this song is about so that I can give it the consideration that it deserves for this contest?
Agrimorfee - October 07, 2004 - Report this comment
The singer is Al's best buddy, and they are two guys who have been trying to attain fame and fortune by hanging around the local celebs in places to "be seen" in Los Angeles and New York. Al somehow got all the glory, but his friend didn't. He confronts Al, in a fit of jealous rage (as Al dines with Barbara Streisand, James Brolin, and a bevy of sexy actresses at Emeril's), and accuses him of being an effeminate drunkard who slept his way to the top. Sort of a male version of "All About Eve". :)

Love the fact you're mocking Rossini, but I had the same problem Guy did.

SOTM--I was also confused...

(SOTM) 'Gigolo' was brilliant, but this was a bit hard to follow.

"Gigolo" for "Figaro" is a great sub. Aggro, your brain frightens me. That's a compliment.

(SOTM): I don't mind parodies that comes with an introduction, some introductions on this website have been hilarious, but when the introduction is totally necessary for the understanding of it, then maybe it isn't the strongest contender and the best choice for SOTM. I'm sorry Agrimorfee, I really wish that I could like this one more than my gut feeling tells me that I do.

I really liked the gigolo part too. But I had trouble matching the original lyrics to the music (as well as your lyrics) so it made it tough to follow. Like most of your stuff, this seems like a segment of a much larger concept. Interesting as always.

Good parody with very clever rhyming, but Ms. Streisand spells her first name "Barbra."

(SOTM) DKTOS here, although if I heard it I might know it. Good read, though.

SOTM -- real mind trip hearing Alfalfa from The Little Rascals singing this in my head.

(SOTM) DKTOS and couldn't really get into it, but it is obvious you put a lot of work into it, so 5-3-5.

Great work here, Agri. Some excellent couplets in here. Adagio's just barely edged yours out for 3rd.

(ABC3-T) I had trouble following along with the OS. But this reads great, and definitely not an easy song to parody.

Another great one from the master of the Unusual
bobpiecheese - March 24, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-T) I have to go with what Matthias said, even though the OS was too fast for me, and the topic zoomed straight over my head. You took the time to put out yet another obscure parody like this, so I congratulate you.
Jason - March 24, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3T) As what bobpiecheese said. A bit fast but the effort involved was great.

(ABC) I could not follow that AT ALL...but kudos on tackling opera, and a good read!

(ABC3T) very clever - I was wondering why I hadn't commented on this SOTM entrant and then see it was posted a few weeks before i arrived here - great work on the short lines and rhythm, Ag - 555

(ABC3T) You lost me here too, Agri but, after your explanation above, it made sense. Truly original idea. 555

(ABC3T) I've GOT to give you 5s for sheer cojones, Agri...you are truly one of a kind. Pushing through the frontiers of parody writing is what you do best.
Red Ant - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-T) I wonder if this was the first opera parody on Amiright. The topic was lost on me as well, and following the pacing was understandably difficult, but you deserve 5s for the effort and "Die in an inferno!/Ignorant slut", which made me LOL. I always knew this piece as "Figaro", I feel somewhat stupid now...
Arwen - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
ABC...while I have to appreciate your talent for tackling such a difficult OS, and though I'm sure it took a LOT of time and effort...this one still just doesn't do it for me. =( A for effort, though...
Jeff Reuben - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
So are we to assume that this is your aria of expertise? Good job doing something different from the norm (I always think of Bugs Bunny and The Rabbit Of Seville when I hear The Barber Of Seville).

Stan Hall - February 25, 2008 - Report this comment
Not at all bad, Agri... but you should know that the Rossini who composed the music for which Cesare Sterbino's libretto provided the aria's orginal lyrics was named _Giacchino_, not Giancarlo. Perhpas you were thinking, of Gian Carlo Menotti, also Italian-born -- 7 years shy of a half-century after Rossini's death -- but generally considered an American composer/librettist, and likely known first to most for his opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors." :-)
