Song Parodies -> "Superdelegate"

Original Song Title:

"Modern Major General"

Parody Song Title:

"Superdelegate"

Parody Written by:

Steve Kalafut

The Lyrics

I thought I was done with Pirates of Penzance for a while, but then I realized that "superdelegate" has the same cadence as "major general". So for the heck of it, I'll even throw in the introduction.
Yes, yes, I am a superdelegate

(For he is a superdelegate, a party superdelegate)
And it is it is a glorious thing to be a superdelegate
(And it is it is a phenomenal thing to be a superdelegate)
----
I am one of the Democratic party superdelegates
This nomination is the thing that we're supposed to regulate
'Cause soon we will be rid of Bush, the president with half a brain
And so we must prevent his job from falling onto John McCain

We must decide if we should go with Barry-O or Hillary
So we can take the Gee-Oh-Pee and stuff them in the pillory
We must make up our minds and choose our presidential candidate

[pause, then continue speaking]
Candidate? Which one?

[resume singing]
And get our act together very soon before it gets too late

(And get our act together very soon before it gets too late
And get our act together very soon before it gets too late
And get our act together very soon before it gets to be too late)

We'll try to restablish something of our party unity
So we can go into November with some continuity
In short, in matters that could even help decide the nation's fate
I am another Democratic party superdelegate

(In short, in matters that could even help decide the nation's fate
He is another Democratic party superdelegate)
----
Well, some of us are senators or congressmen or governors
No longer mister Spitzer since he was found with a sleazy whore
A lot of loyal voters hope that we will carry out their will
But should it be Michelle's main man or should it be the wife of Bill?

I hope the folks in Denver know that we will be there very soon
We'll let the people see that we are not some bats here from the moon
And we can ask ourselves how will we deal with Jeremiah Wright

[pause, then continue speaking]
Reverend Wright? Do what to America?

[resume singing]
Let's tell those darned Republicans that they can all go fly a kite

(Let's tell those darned Republicans that they can all go fly a kite
Let's tell those darned Republicans that they can all go fly a kite
Let's tell those darned Republicans that they can all go fly a stupid kite)

With Hillary or Barry-O, we'll take our fight into the fall
We have a lot of hope for change and hopefully, we'll win it all
In short, in matters that could even help decide the nation's fate
I am another Democratic party superdelegate

(In short, in matters that could even help decide the nation's fate
He is another Democratic party superdelegate)
----
[slower]
The campaign trail is arduous, but we still say that "yes, we can"
Should we let in the delegates from Florida and Michigan?
The primaries are near their end, we'll soon have to get organized
Republicans have chosen someone we can surely demonize

That old man from the Gee-Oh-Pee has waited long enough for us
And soon we'll get our chance to throw that fogey underneath the bus
It's time to sit right down and plot some elemental strategy

[pause, then continue speaking]
Strategy? Now that's a hard one, now isn't it? Got it!

[resume singing, at original tempo]
You'll say the better democrat will seize this opportunity

(You'll say the better democrat will seize this opportunity
You'll say the better democrat will seize this opportunity
You'll say the better democrat will seize this opportunitunity)

Important task that's left for us is giving out the final word
And voting on our nominee is just as crazy as you've heard
In short, in matters that could even help decide the nation's fate
I am another Democratic party superdelegate

[A right-wing wise guy (yours truly, perhaps) approaches the superdelegate, and asks]
Can you do that again, real fast?

[the superdelegate soloist looks at the conductor, and requests]
Maestro, presto agitato, s'il vous plait

[repeat 3rd verse, ("The campaign trail...")
at a speed even faster than the original tempo,
and without the pause or spoken part]

I've never cared for how even in primaries, both parties subvert the popular vote... Good job on the super annoyances.
