Song Parodies -> "The Whiff Song"

Original Song Title:

"The Riff Song"

Original Performer:

Gordon MacRae

Parody Song Title:

"The Whiff Song"

Parody Written by:

Ralph Shaffer

The Lyrics

The Riff Song was written for Sigmund Romberg's 1926 operetta, The Desert Song. Most people associate it with Gordon MacRae in the 1953 film of The Desert Song.
From off the mound

There comes a sound

It is an awful, roaring fastball from his hand

Livid with fear

Here's what you hear

A pitch from Nolan Ryan fastest in the land

And

All who wonder quickly understand

The cry of

Strike!

As you swing at one straight down the

Pike

One, two, three and you can take a

Hike

It means that you have struck out

Yike!

Your lucky you're still about

Psych

Ryan makes you think this one you'll

Like

You'll miss and sound like Alibi

Ike

So batters dig in each spike

He'll make you whiff like a tyke

With every

Strike
.
This is one in a series of Romberg parodies, intended for an "Evening with Romberg," and consisting of the rendition of his original song followed by the parody.
