Senator Joe Lieberman finally got the message, from the Democratic voters of Connecticut, that he'd been unconsciously sending the entire country for the last five years: He's a Republican. Lieberman may have lost the Democratic Primary, but he's running as an independent. I think I can now say he has retired the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Memorial Cup for political transvestism.

If Al Gore had picked a real Democrat as his 2000 running mate, right now, he'd be right where he is now, on the family farm in Carthage, Tennessee. The question is, would it be in its sixth year as the Summer White House, or (if President Gore then went on to lose to John McCain in 2004) would it looking at the early construction there of the Gore Presidential Library? Regardless, Lieberman has now gotten what he deserved. Maybe Bush can appoint Lieberman to be an Ambassador or something. I'll say this for Joe, though: He still works six days a week more than Bush does.
