Parody Song Title:

"Santa Anna’s Coming to Town"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

(Vocalist #1)
We’ve got a new flag.
It’s got a lone star,
But Mexican troops
Are on the radar.
Santa Anna’s coming to town.

He's making a list
Of places to rule.
We hear that he thinks
The North Pole is cool.
Santa Anna wants a big crown.

He knows that we’re rebelling,
He says he’s not impressed.
So we’re preparing for trouble
From this military pest.

Davy Crockett’s here,
And Jim Bowie, too.
They’re making it clear
What our foe should do.
Santa Anna should leave this town!

He should just desist
From ambition's vice.
Whatever it costs,
We will pay the price.
Santa Anna won’t keep this town!

We think he should surrender
‘Cause Texans will not bend.
Though he might take the Alamo,
We will beat him in the end.

(Artillery interlude)

(Vocalist #2)
The General lost,
His vision got canned;
But his progeny’s
Now swarming the land.
Santa Anna slept all around.

They’re making a list
Of jobs they can do.
They might mow your lawn
And clean your house too.
Santa Anna’s heirs are in town.

They’re working in our farmyards,
They’re working in our malls.
Did Santa Anna really lose,
Or did he win after all?
General Antonio López de Santa Anna (1794 – 1876), who was President of Mexico 11 non-consecutive times and considered himself the “Napoleon of the West,” defeated Texas defenders in the Battle of the Alamo, which concluded on March 6, 1836. But the following month, Texas soldiers under Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto, and Santa Anna signed a treaty acknowledging the independence of the Republic of Texas.

Fine historical perspective. Now how about the same title but instead about the Socal fires?

Good history lesson and better than the original song. Now I will have to think of one about California.

I drive further to work than the Alamo is from my house. In case you didn't know - in the movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" Pee Wee was told that his stolen bike was in the basement of the Alamo. Guess what PEE WEE - The Alamo has no basement but Ozzy Osbourne did whiz upon it in 1982.

As for the Tex-Mex illegal population working in the malls and farms it is more likely that they are driving to other jobs in cars without insurance with no licenses and not exactly street legal. I had the misfortune of having an automobile accident that involved an illegal. All the police did was tow his car to impound. The car was completely illegal - not one thing about that car was legal. They didn't even fine him for not having insurance nor did they contact "La Migra" (immigration) as they call it here. Thus I tend to agree with you JJ on exactly who did win.

Tourism is the big business in this city. SA has the highest taxes on hotels and car rentals in the nation. And you will never see San Antonio on a Cops episode. It would hurt the tourist trade they fear. But you will see every other major Texas city on it.

I did not know that Santa Anna had 11 non consecutive terms in office as El Presidente del Estados Unitos Mexicanos. They must have changed political leaders back in the day more than I change my clothes. SA can thank two things for its booming tourism. Mild winters and Santa Anna for the Alamo which later spawned the River Walk in the downtown area with the Alamo at center location and well within walking distance of anything on the walk..

Loved the parody - wish I'd thought of it. Especially liked "Santa Anna slept all around." That is exactly what he and his men were doing when he was routed by Sam Houston's men in San Jacinto in 1836. Santa Anna had a lot more troops that he could have put onto the Alamo. His numbers were around 4,000. He would have had more but he only had a very limited number of pick-up trucks available.

And no, John Wayne did not really fight at the Alamo. That is one of the most frequently asked questions by tourists that visit the shrine each year.

The fives of Texas are upon you JJ. WELL DONE!

Spent 18 years of my life in Texas so I can appreciate this a lot, especially the ending. But in my opinion, you can give Texas back to Mexico. Your historical parodies are always top notch, and this is no exception.

Thanks to all for the votes and comments. John B, as a resident of Southern California, I had a lot of friends and family impacted by the fires that were made so difficult to fight because of the erratic Santa Ana winds. Maybe there is a parody there. --- Guy, I definitely appreciate ALL of the thoughts of an enlightened San Antonio inhabitant. Good pick-up line (pun intended). --- Dee, if Texas is given back to Mexico, will Guy have to submit his parodies in Spanish?
