The Lyrics

this one has too many culturally specific refernces .. hence all the annotations!*the City Slickers was a newspaper column a bit like " Heard in the Street" tipping shares duering the period of the dotcom bubble*Piers Morgan was the editor of the paper who was accused of insider dealing ahead of their cxloumn but exonerated. said he hadn't read the column.* a famous lapdancing club in London where the journalist used to hang out with brokers* one of the journalists had been charged with this criminal offence some time before this case arose*very expensive restaurant frequented by celebs etc
Once I lived the life of a dot com millionare
Making shed loads of money using my slickers column * to ramp all those dodgy shares
I was livin high on the hog.. really puttin' on the style
Out clubbin every night
things were getting out of hand They were really wild

Then my bubble burst and I had to take the rap
Not old Piers Morgan* though .. the Mirror board never gave him the sack
which just goes to show that all that counts is who you know
That's the way its always been and that's the way it's always gonna go.

Chorus
Oh no nobody wants you
When you're down and out
No more nights at Stringfellows* lapdancers and lines of coke with the guys
Swapping hot tips with brokers, cooking up all those nice big fat juicy lies
but when I get back on my feet again
I'm gonna be the one with the fancy influential friends
You know the kind the.. kind who will always get your ass out of jail
No matter what you do ... steal penguins from the zoo*... you'll be there at the Ivy *.. dinin out on the tale
Sax solo

Repeat last verse

Repeat chorus

end

How does one correct ones own typos on this site... must've been tired when I submitted this!?

This is another one of those cases in which truth is funnier than fiction - stealing penguins from the zoo!! Very well done, Martha. Yes, this is very similar to the R. Foster Winans/Wall Street Journal case. The alibi of not reading a column in the newspaper for which he is the editor seems far fetched for Mr. Morgan.
