The Lyrics

Per usual, 2015 provided us with loads of material--half of it already so bizarre as to be self-parodizing!
Here's a musical recap of 2015 to Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
I was fortunate enough to have a truly talented singer class up my lyrics which can be found at this YouTube link: SUNG VERSION HERE
~
Say, where’d twenty-fifteen go?
Blazed on through!
Record drought baked the planet
Legalized weed did too

Say, Where’d twenty-fifteen go?
Freaks in news—
Jared, Duggar and Cosby
Fifty Shades of ‘loose screws’

Recall how Speaker Boehner quit
And Brian Williams’ hubris-fit
of ly-ing
Now Hef’s a ‘prude’ and Bieber’s ‘whack’
And Rachael D’s convinced she’s ‘black’
While Sheen’s still fly-ing!

Say where’d twenty-fifteen go?
No debate—
Carson, Cruz, Trump and Clinton
Made Kanye seem sedate

Say where’d twenty-fifteen go?
Disney’s pissed!
Lucas leaked their new film’s plot:
“Jar-Jar’s now ‘Cait-the-Sith”

This year we rarely found rainbows
With ISIS and politicos all hating
As Kim Jong launched, the Russians sacked
While Nicki raunched, the Chinese hacked
And Tom’s de-flat-ing!

Say prayer: Next year is better
More upbeat—
That hope’s thin
Now “Kardashian’s”
Every other tweet…

Let’s pray that ‘sixteen
Brings more cheer ‘cause
Things ain’t
Twerkin' out this year
My
Dear!

Actually, I'm rather glad to see the back of this year... as I've been with every year since 2009.

You need to send this to your local TV station for their end of the year recap. I looked at the video. Superb. I wrote a parody of a song with the line "people writing songs that voices never share". I often think that describes AIR. You have truly made it into the big time with this vocal rendition. Thanks for sharing it.

I sent the link to the big 4 TV stations in Kansas City. Let you know if I hear anything.

at the very least 2016 means Obama's finally done at least there's that! 5's
P.S. didn't you do a 2013 recap back in... 2013?

Rob & MTT: Thanks guys!

Patrick: Appreciate it—you're too kind, sir! Though I fear the graphics are too amateurish for TV, one can always hope!? Turns out this parody vid was much more work than the last one where I basically dropped the audio track on the existing Mary Poppins movie clip and synch'd speeds. This time around I discovered 'transitioning Jar-Jar' Vogue covers and their ilk don't grow on trees and are major Photoshop Elements time sinks—at least given my hobbiest skill sets. I think my biggest take home lessons were (1) repetitive iconic lyrics tend to box you in and (2) slow songs make for inefficient joke delivery vehicles; I guess the dubious corollary of this logic is that the lyricless 'Flight of the Bumblebee' should be the ultimate song to parody!? Thanks again, Patrick.

Jonathan: Gracias! And yeah, I think it was '12 or '13, maybe even one in '10 or so... nothing sucks seeds like suck-cess'?

It was a pretty strange year; I think every year gets a lie stranger or I might just be me getting less toleration for idiocy. Well written!
