The Lyrics

Part of my "Cut the Flowers" self-challenge. If you want to keep a friendship alive, vary your points of discussion. Don't just talk about work. Especially if your job is a little...morbid.
You have to do this, man (just don't bring it up at all, dipshit)

So convoluted but true
Who's the angel of death? It's you, I'd freak
But nothin's changed about you
Still won't keep work to yourself

I don't wanna know
How you're slayin', please, save how the blood flowed
For someone who's not heard it before
I know you're reapin', constant repeat show
Oh-ooh, buddy, I already know (oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh-whoa)
Ho-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh

So many friggin' times I told you
Don't brag about your scythe, I'm tryna eat
Heard ev'ry last words, cool and rude
And those tryna offer wealth

I don't wanna know
'Bout your slayin' streak and who went below
Pretty dark, yet your ass still ignores
That all your reapin's borin' now, 'fraid so
Oh-ooh, buddy, ev'rythin' is known

The first time you came up to me (in your black robe so sleak)
And revealed you had to reap (that forever sleep)
I had cause to call "bullshit" 'cause of how you used to be
Any sort of madcap claim (proof of a cracked brain)
It'd be one you would say (you fell for Amway)
It's been clear it's not a trick (hey!), won't get a rise from me

Whoa, whoa, whoa, shut it up
Once was somethin', now it's nothin', don't increase it
Done your whole "unalivin' ain't evil" schtick
Then flip right around to point out your job isn't murder
I know ev'ry line so just skip the bit
Just a soul shepherd, gave that speech one day (just stop)
Like some secret knowledge sure to short out my dumb brain (just stop)
You know I told you that first, right? Don't say nay
We made a big joke how your "be afraid" frame (shut it up)
Just hides a nerd who feels bad for the blows (just stop)
That I give to spiders, please, you know, I know (just stop)
It's all out there, the last Grim was a joke (shut it up)
You knocked his skull off by flailin' mid-steak-choke

But I friggin' know
You're not slayin', geez, so sick of your tone
When I hurry you out of the door
Go back to reapin' cause your small talk blows
Whoa-ooh, buddy, I already know
"I'm not slayin', geez, just an inside joke"
Dude, my problem is there is no more
Two jokes 'bout reapin', same-y anecdotes
Oh-ooh, buddy, find some other dope

Fine, you're reapin', let someone else find out (just stop)
Get along well and don't come back to my house (just stop)
Unless you can learn to stay off the topic of the graves
That you've gone and visited, heard it all, believe me

Pretty emblematic of how the music of 2023 was entirely uninterested in the music of 2023 when one of the biggest songs was a remake of a 2004 hit that itself sampled a 1996 hit that itself sampled a song from 1987. It's a good thing it's such a friggin' vibe, otherwise I might be a tad miffed.
