The Lyrics

The space race begins anew. Iran launched a grey-tufted monkey into sub-orbital flight and supposedly brought it back safely. Gee! They accomplished this coup almost 52 years after Alan Shepard (who was considerably more than a simian) accomplished the same feat. Why do this? To paraphrase Buck Henry's memorable movie line..."Forget it, Jake. It's Iran." ;D

The mullahs sent a monkey for a ride into space.
Belatedly Iran has gotten in the race.
The monkey came back safely, lots of press it got.
But was the trip successful? Maybe, maybe not.

It's Iran's first space flight,
Flaunting their new-found might.
Something doesn't seem right.
That monk looks like Ahmadinejad!
What's the tech we're seein'?
Chinese/North Korean?
Soon we'll all be fleein'
Lastest weapon of the new jihad.

The mullahs told the U.N. with extreme aplomb
"A monkey can't - become a martyr bomb!".
But soon they will be launching a whole monkey troop.
And they'll bury the Israelis in a mound of monkey poop.

It's Iran's space monkey.
Mullahs have new flunky.
Bet the trip was funky.
Wonder if the trip was really true.
Grey-tuft monkey fable?
Chimps are much more stable
Like our Ham and Able.(1)
Watch out Yanks 'cause soon we'll come for you.

(Outstanding jazz choruses)

Were the Russians aiding
Iran with the raiding?
U.S. program's fading.
Iran's made a monkey out - of - us!

(1) - This is poetic license. Actually, Able was a rhesus monkey. But as the old candy commercial used to say..."There's no wrong way to treat a rhesus!". ;D

Nice topic-555! During WW2 the Germans at Peenemunde had an instrument payload V-2 almost ready for testing. It later flew in the US and another one was the first to take photos of our world BEFORE satellites! The Germans could have put an animal in for testing but believe it or not they had animal rights laws and relied more on instruments for temp and other readings. A scientist tried to suggest using a pet dog on Peenemunde but was arrested and taken off the V-2 instrument project; otherwise, the German dog would have beat Laika into space. IIRC, the dog was named Bruno and had escaped from a visiting SS officer.

Ahm. looks like an ape because he is one, prostrating himself before the monkey mullahs.

Alan Shepard? What am I, chopped borscht?

Good parody, but the pun in the outro was the best of all! -- TT
